For real, Georgia Girl? 2800+ freshmen for the class of 2014! Craaaaazy. And they admitted more than for the class of 2013? I guess because there were more applicants, the percent admitted still went down from last year.

^ The target is 2,600 for the class of 2014. The numbers Georgia Girl gave you were for last year when more students accepted the offer of admission than anticipated (yay!). They reduced the number admitted a bit this year to try to hit the target of 2,600.

Of course I’m happy I was admitted. I wouldn’t have committed to go if I wasn’t…
lol

yeah, I wasn’t sure if those numbers were for 2013 or 2014. Ok, thanks! :)

The admit rate for the class of 2014 was 23.8%. 35,730 applied, 8,500 were admitted.

[Admissions more selective than ever|Daily Trojan](http://dailytrojanbeta.com/2010/04/07/admissions-more-selective-than-ever/)

…Here are the numbers. I am sorry the numbers were not clearer.

For 2008-2009 Class

7875 Admitted
2766 Enrolled

For 2009-2010 Class

8725 Admitted
2869 Enrolled

While these numbers are not at the level of HYPSCTech they are still among the colleges considered highly selective. Princeton Review ranked USC selectivity at 98.

These are acceptance rates for some colleges in the latest U.S. News. The new rankings come out this summer.

Johns Hopkins 25%
Rice 25%
Notre Dame 27%
Carnegie Mellon 38%
Univ. of Virginia 37%
Univ. of Michigan 42%
Univ. of North Carolina 34%
Georgia Institute of Technology 61%
Univ. of Washington 61%

Then why is this trivial statistical gerrymandering such an issue for you? You’re at the school you want to be at - one that is becoming increasingly hard to get into - yet you seem to be offended that it’s not really as hard to get into as your acceptance package led you to believe. Enjoy the moment.

Wow I didnt know USCs accept rate was lower than like JHU Rice UVA

yeah I still don’t understand why I wasn’t admitted to UVA… in state, and I didn’t even apply for financial aid there. Ah well.

Anyways.

So, big freshman class this year! And that’s not even including spring admits, right?

GeorgiaGirl there is nothing for you to be sorry about. Thank you for the numbers

Vinceh, I feel like I should clarify for my own sake more than yours.

I am not “offended” that it’s not as selective as I determined. If anything offended me, and offended is a strong word, it’s the idea of being mislead and not the topic. I have never, ever, cared about selectivity. I applied to many schools with many different selectivity rates because I felt they were good matches for me. Do I think the information in the welcome book is slightly misleading? Yes. Do I know it’s a marketing technique? Yes. Did I fall for it and make my self look silly? Yes. Would I still be going to USC if the acceptance rate was 100%? Heck yes!

None of my post have anything to do with my decision to go to the school and the rate of acceptance did not influence my decision at all. In fact, I didn’t even think about it until after I committed. I simply saw information, albeit wrong information, found it interesting and started a thread about it.

You make it sound like I’m upset it’s not as hard to get into as HYP… when I am certainly not. Not at all, even slightly. Honestly, If I wanted that I would have applied to one of those schools. I didn’t.

I don’t want to come across as the type of person that chooses a school because it’s the hardest one to get into because that is not me at all.

I also don’t want this to sound like an attack on you, it’s not. I just felt the need to clarify.

the admissions rate for the class of 2014 is actually about 26.5% including spring admits which many of the schools on the above list do not do

sparkles,

Ah, some input from UCLA…

Many highly respected colleges offer spring admission. In my opinion, it is a better system than having a long waiting list of students who have no chance of being admitted such as Duke has this year.

Other colleges I was able to find in a brief search that offer spring admission are:

CAL
Rutgers
Hamilton
Cornell
Middlebury
Whitman
James Madison
Mt. Holyoke

One university offered admission to some students only if they took a semester abroad in fall of the freshmen year.

SC does not use the common application, ED or EA.

@sparkle415 - Read my post on the 2nd page. It was 23.8%.

magicalmalik, you’re right, but my calculation added in spring admits.

so 35,730/8,500= 23.8%

but they are also admitting 1000 for spring, if you add them in the number comes out to be around 26.6%

I’m also not bashing on spring admission at all, I’m just saying that the admissions rate isn’t the same when you add them in. I didn’t say anything about it being good or bad or prestigious or not, that is just irrelevant.

when does the freshman profile for 2010 come out?
