USC Sophomore Transfer Question - Need Help!

my situation is quiet complicated. i was kind of late on registering for the fall classes so i was unable to get the classes i needed. so ill probably have about 6 or 9 units - 2 or 3 classes - just fall semester. then i heard u dont need 30 units completed when i am applying feb but i have to show then ill be taking classes that will add up to 30 units by the time i enter USC. i kno Spring semester counts, but can i also take classes during summer and count that also as part of 30 units?? because it will be before i enter USC. also how does AP exams work?? i took several AP classes and i am hoping that they will count towards 30 units, do they??

so i am hoping these will add up to 30 units

6 or 9 units - fall semester
17 units - spring semester
AP units
Rest of the units - summer semester??

Thanks!

Your situation is not complicated at all. There is no requirement that you have 30 units to apply to transfer to USC. The 30 units just indicates what USC will primarily consider when looking at your transfer application. 30 units and up they will primarily consider your college transcript. Less than 30 units completed, they will primarily consider your high school transcript and test scores.

Yes, your AP scores of 4 and 5 will be accepted for credit at USC, but no, they will not count toward the 30 units described above. When **you **apply this year, USC will consider your application based primarily on your high school record as you will only have completed 9 college units as they consider your application.

that’s what i want though… 30 units so they don’t have to consider my highschool transcript. so, my last resort is the summer semester… can that count?? can i take classes to count towards 30 units??

You would have to have 30 units **by the time you apply **for them to primarily consider your college work. The application deadline is February 2nd. So you will have 9 units by that point. They will primarily consider your high school record.

If you would like to be considered on your college work, you will have to wait until the following year to apply when you will have 30 units or more of college work by the application deadline of February 2nd.

look… ive done some research and

here it is from another thread… “But anyway, bottom line, I’m fairly sure they don’t look at your high school records too much, and usually, if you do well your 1st semester, they will request your 2nd semester grades and make their decisions then. So don’t sweat it, and just focus on doing well in school for now. It is NOT 30 credits at the time you submit your application”

Congratulations on your extensive research. I am sure that sentence you found on the other thread takes precedence over the published information on the University of Southern California admissions website.

I am very sorry to have bothered you with my useless information - clearly I know nothing about USC admissions. It is lucky we have you here to give us the real information.

Best of luck with your applications.

^^^ ■■■■■ ON PATROL. clearly, you do not know what you are talking about. On to the next one now.

Yes, as I said it is clear that I have no useful information about USC admissions whatsoever, and I am certainly grateful to you for pointing out my many shortcomings. Please ignore any posts you see by me on the USC forum - I am sure they are filled with erroneous information. I wish you only the best and I hope to be the first to wish you hearty congratulations when you receive word from USC next June.

"You would have to have 30 units by the time you apply for them to primarily consider your college work. " ■■■■■■■■ HARD.

See for yourself. 30 units by the time I apply for them to consider my college work?? Nice ■■■■■■■■ bud.

I am quite certain that USC will consider your 6 or 9 college units to be the finest college units they have ever encountered and will have no need to look beyond them at your high school record at all. As I said, wishing you the very best of luck, but of course you don’t need luck - you have 6 or 9 units!

It’s a shame that you get so defensive when someone tries to inform you of correct information. It is ,as alememom tried to tell you, based on the number of units you have at the time of application. I’ve done some research as well. Research based on facts and not the opinion of members on CC who are “fairly sure” about something. If I post on CC saying that I’m “fairly sure” that Santa Claus is real, does that make it true? The real bottom line is, it IS based on how many units you have when you apply. Why would they make a decision ASSUMING that you are going to pass the units you are lacking? And just in case you still weren’t sure, here it is straight from the USC website

this thread is funny. what does the link you posted prove?

btw AP credits do count towards the 30, but i believe only so many do. you will have to clarfiy.
and summer/spring does NOT count towards the 30 units. but summer/spring is transferable still.

like the 2 above have stated…its how many units you have at the time of applying.

my guess is that you will apply with the units you have
currently 6-9 + AP credits
which will hopefully land you around 10-20 at the time of applying.
you will also list that you have 17 units IP for spring
once your app is in and if your app is strong enough
you will either get accepted through stellar EC’s or are some super legacy…
or like most people with under 30 at the time of applying, you will get a SGR (spring grades request)

and then…its really unpredictable after that.
some people get 4.0s in the spring and still get rejected.
while some get accepted despite they have fewer units/lower GPAs.

best of luck, post if you have more Q’s
no need for hostility either. we are all here to help each other.

Dainese, I am SO glad you are here to answer questions for asd on the Transfer forum, 'cause the application-and–financial-aid-answer-lady (or should I say “■■■■■?”) over on the USC forum is planning to ignore any further pleas for information from this particular poster!

thanks Dainese… thanks for being real. i have another question, i took AP bio high school year but didnt do so well on my AP exam so i wont be able to get any AP credit for cc. i am registering for classes, but i don’t kno if i should take bio again or not even though i took it in high school. would UC or USC look at it as me wanting to take a class that i have already taken because it’ll be easy? so should i take another class? or should i take bio if i want to again?? thanks!

no problem, glad to help.
but alamemom is seriously a guru on this forum and you will probably come back with questions that only she will be able to help u when…especially with apps come around. she helped me a lot with fin aid questions despite me giving her a hard time  sorry haha

note that she has 3000+ posts and is a senior member…which probably means she is also being “real” with you haha :D

since your AP bio score doesnt count at the CC, then yes you would have to take it again if you need it for your major/GE units.

and no, no one will look at it as if it were an easy class just because uve taken it already…haha. id personally take what is easy to get an A in lol, but thats just me. ive never heard of anyone getting punished for taking a class they can get an easy A in. if you knwo the material then who is it hurting? UNLESS you take the class the DONT learn anything, then of course it will hurt you.
