Hi everyone I'm super excited about going to USC, even as a spring admit. I made a call to my region's (silicon valley) admissions officer to go over my articulation agreement at my local CC and asked him what the chances of being bumped up to fall were. Unfortunately, he said chances were very slim and that notification by would probably come in June. Are there any spring admits on here who were bumped up to fall? Also, is there really no ranking in terms of how the spring admits to be bumped to fall are selected (just randomly or based on the school's needs)? I'm in the CLAS as a biological sciences major and as that is the biggest college, my chances seem even slimmer. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats on being admitted to USC! Last year, my son was told there was almost no chance of getting bumped up, but he did. He got a phone call in May (sorry, don’t have the date handy) with the good news. I think most people believe that the bumps are based primarily on major, and I have to believe it could have something to do with the level of interest you show. My S sent in the acceptance card right away, visited campus, and wrote several letters to tell them how much he wanted to be moved up. Quite a few kids on CC reported being moved up last year - even one who turned down the offer because he liked being a spring admit. I’m not sure if anyone will know the exact number, but it seemed pretty significant. You can search for a thread called Spring Admits Unite if you want to track the process from last year.

Thanks for the advice!

Congrats micL! My daughter is also a Spring Admit and coincidentally, a bio major too. Fauxnom, do you have any advice about how to write these letters to draw more attention to her file. She is fully committed to USC for the spring, but desperately hopes for a bump to fall. Any help would be great!

Congrats to your D, willebo!

My S wrote a letter to the admissions people in his department, basically thanking them, telling them he would love to start earlier and that he was totally flexible - ready to drop his plans and start at USC on short notice. He talked about a film class he was currently enrolled in too, to highlight his increasing interest in his major. He also wrote to the regular admissions office and talked about a couple of awards that were not in his application - e.g. National Merit finalist had been announced, and USC admissions people didn’t seem to have that in his file when I called once about something else. He also (and this was sincere) wrote about wanting to do the Thematic Option program, and how this would be difficult as a spring admit.

We have no idea if this helped, but my advice based on his experience is that it really can’t hurt to show interest, and if you can think of anything that needs updating, it’s a great excuse to send in a letter. Good luck!

When exactly do spring admits have to send in their admission deposit?? Isn’t it June 1st?? I tried to do it at the reception last week n they said we couldn’t do it this early??

Well I haven’t gotten a letter/information about sending a deposit in yet, so I don’t think we can do it yet…?

Spring admits start paying deposits on June 1st, and has to be payed by August 1st.
