I've only seen a couple of people on CC admitted to USC for acting... is it because most of the people on CC are more business oriented or is it because (I hope, I hope, I hope) there are still lots of slots left and they just haven't mailed yet? I've been accepted at Chapman, rejected by DePaul, still waiting on USC and NYU.... :)

My D is also still waiting for USC and NYU...along with Emerson and BU. She has been accepted to Syracuse. No rejections yet so I think decisions from USC are still ongoing? I know they don't have a waitlist so they really want to go after the ones they know will go there. That is our understanding. She did receive a nice thank you note from her admissions interviewer. So more waiting I guess. ;)

Thanks, and good luck to your daughter. All this waiting is so hard. I just want to know one way or the other....

My daughter just got accepted to BA in theater at USC.

My S received his acceptance to USC BFA last week (mail) and NYU BFA (email) on Monday

accepted to the USC BA today… well more, I was accepted Tuesday, but I just got the letter today. :)

Would love to know if anyone can tell me, which would be a better community college to attend between Santa Monica and Los Angeles City Colleges. D has been admitted to a few 4 year theatre programs, but price is prohibitive. We need to consider 2 years at a community college, with the intent of transfering to a stellar BA or BFA program.
Your knowledge will be most appreciated.

for anyone who got accepted to the BA program
did you audition for the BFA or did you just applied for the BA
when you audition was there a information session before?
what did they say in the session?

The timeline for SOT acceptances is this:

1) They decide on their BFA class.
2) They admit the BAs who auditioned for the BFA but did not quite make it into the BFA program.
3) They admit the BAs who just applied for the BA.

Admissions decisions are coming until April 4th. If you haven’t received anything yet, it does not mean you were rejected!

Our daughter was admitted to BA in Theater, letter arriving Friday. She did not audition on campus for the BFA. She had a strong background in both community and high school theater, as well as dance and vocal music. She also has a good academic background and other activities, so perhaps that made a difference.

musical student
are you a student at USC or a parent of a student?

lucymom
what was your D’s gpa, activities and plays that she has done?

i actually am applying as a transfer into the BA. how much is it a possible chance for me to get in?

I’m a student at USC and I have a few friends who work in the Drama Center processing applications and such.

my daughter’s gpa is about a 3.7 unweighted with 4 aps
she is in national honors society, founder and president of her own club, in national charity league, on a competitive dance team, teaches hip hop classes to kids, is on her schools show choir, is editor in chief of the school paper, and is in some leadership groups as well.

shes been mostly ensemble at the shows at her school (only 1 major show per year), and has been in the musical theater showcases.

we live near portland, OR, so she has done 3 shows with a professional company called Northwest Children’s Theater, and is also in the intern program there which allows her to take classes in exchange for doing tech work.

Shielatara: LACC has a theatre program that is quite respected. However, to transfer into a BFA program (at USC anyway) the chances might not be so good. I imagine that it is possible to transfer into the bA program. USC’s BFA program is very specific: They pick, as a freshman class, a group of kids who have supporting talents that will go (hopefully) through all four years together.

I do not know about SMC’s acting program.

thank you lucy mom
i wish jersey had a little more involvement in theater

musical student
do u have any idea what they are looking for in a transfer student in the theater program or if they take any transfers?

The odds of transferring into the BFA program are very slim. Sometimes, when transferring a BFA, they’ll find someone they like and offer to start them over as a freshman so that they can go through the program for 4 years. For the BA, they’re looking for someone who can matriculate right into their year (i.e. someone who has taken similar classes in their first or second year to USC BAs).
