USC Thornton Musicians Honored

<p>It has been an exciting time for musicians at the Thornton School of Music. Earlier this year students appeared on the Tonight Show. At the Emmy Awards a group of Thornton musicians performed with Sir Elton John on national television. Following that they were shown again preparing for the Emmy awards show on Good Morning America.</p>

<p>Classical pianist, Evan Pensis, is a sophomore at Thornton. He won the Grand Prize at the International Siegfried Weishaupt 2013 Piano Competition in Baden-Wurttemburg, Germany. He was also honored with the Audience Award. Pensis is a student of Daniel Pollack.</p>

<p>Michael Lee won 1st Prize at the NACUSA's Young Composers' Competition.</p>

<p>Percussion student, Ethan Ahmad, has won the 2012 Zildjan Scholarship. This scholarship includes a large monetary award and travel.</p>

<p>Vimbayi Kaziboni, recent alumnus of Thornton, is studying for a year in Uzbekistan on a Fulbright Scholarship. </p>

<p>The USC Thornton School of Music will celebrate 130 years in 2014. The school has introduced a new website: USC</a> Thornton School of Music</p>

<p>USC Thornton student, Athena Tsiaos, won 1st Prize at the MTAC Convention Concerto Competition, Div. 3. She is a student of Bernadine Blala.</p>

<p>Piano students Guk Hui Han and Alina Roitstein were invited to the finals of the Wigmore Hall Song Competition in London.</p>

<p>Wei Cheng Zhao won 1st Prize for organ at the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition.</p>

<p>Melody Chang was awarded 1st Prize at the Hong Kong International Piano Competition.</p>

<p>Alexander Sinchuk won 1st pize at the European Piano Nights Piano Competiton. It took place in Luxembourg.</p>
