USC Thornton Students Win Awards

<p>The USC Thornton School of Music is over 125 years on campus. Some recent awards by students have been announced:</p>

<p>Somang Jaegal won 1st Prize at the 61st Washington International Competition for Piano. The prize included $10,000 and a solo appearance at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.</p>

<p>Mike Gratovich won 1st Prize at the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Competition. The prize included a performance appearance at a later date.</p>

<p>BMI Co and the BMI Foundation Student Composer Competition is one of the most prestigious competitions for young composers. Students from around the world submit their best works to a panel of noted judges. Only eight young composers receive awards.</p>

<p>This year two of the eight recipients were from Thornton, the only school to achieve this number. Sadd Haddad and Daniel Temkin were chosen for awards..</p>

<p>Keri Hui, a student of Norman Krieger, has won the concert division at the Aloha International Piano Competition. As part of her prize she will perform at the Blaisdell Concert Hall in Honolulu in December 2014. She expects to receive her degree in piano performance from Thornton in 2015.</p>
