usc tips and advice thread

"I hate energy drinks with a passion. Sorority recruitment this year was sponsored by Tab, so we had mountains of that crap in the break room. Yuck. The cute packaging is misleading. Full Throttle isn't my thing, either. I guess that's why I always fall asleep writing papers."

I agree. I think energy drinks are misleading. The reason people feel invigorated after consuming an "energy drink" is not because of this purported "energy," but because of the doo doo taste and the time people spend awake ridding themselves of this doo doo taste.

Well said, mrgorilla.

Rockstar Juiced i tell you! it's dangerously (sadly?) appealing in taste.

If you get locked out your room at an odd hour when your dorm's customer service center is closed, call the DPS non-emergency number. Sounds stupid, but I didn't even think of that when I got locked out at like 11 p.m.

And always call DPS or Campus Cruiser when you're having some kind of drunk people or drunk self situation...you won't get in trouble.

Don't rush asian. I didn't but i've heard of hospital trips for alcohol poisoning around initiation time.

If taking calculus, avoid Prof. Mancera like the plague.

The Denny's north of campus is usually full even at 3 AM

If you take a piece of fruit out of EVK or Parkside everytime you go and put in your firidge, you will save a ton on dining dollars and eat healtier.

The wall opening between the EVK dining room and kitchen can be used to get custom orders for eggs and other items.

New-North is a maze. Expect to get lost at first

Trojan Grounds is now open 24/7, which is a lifesaver

If using file-sharing software, turn the upload speed to the minimum, or ITS will flag you

Some people in the marching band talk about it constantly.

The basement of WPH is the least crowded computer lab. Or learn to use Unix and there is always an open computer in SAL.

Get the software from ITS that allows you to access programs on the Unix server on your computer. Saves tons of time and is very convient, but if you do this on wireless have a very good connection.

I must second the advice to stay away from rushing asian greek...lots of sweet physical damage for the guys and psychological damage for the girls.

Expect to be woken up around 6 a.m. the day of the USC-FUCLA game by the very loud but talented marching band. They were running all around campus waking students up. Witnessing band members on top of the PSX parking structure, blaring directly at the windows of Pardee Tower, was annoying but actually pretty entertaining.

If you have a worm on your computer, ITS will block your system from accessing the Internet. It's very, very sad.

Sunday night at Trojan Grounds = no food left. Seriously. Unless you're itching for candy bars, cookies, and all that junk.

So true about the trumpets before game day. Last year when I was on campus, I woke up and heard it. When I woke up later in the morning, my roommate hadn't heard it, and I thought I have hallucinated it or something. I was very confused until someone told me otherwise.

Tip: professors are not supposed to assign homework due after the last day of classes.

of course, that doesn't prevent that from happening anyway. :)

all this sounds awesome.. .ahh!

just gotta get in :)
