USC Transfer Advice

hi! i am a current student attending a california state university, majoring in business administration. i plan to apply to transfer to usc for the 2021-2022 school year (i know, it is really early.) transferring from a 4 year university to usc is much more difficult than transferring from a community college. but i am going to shoot my shot  i am only applying to usc.

i am aware that the average transfer gpa for usc is a 3.7. as of now, i do not meet usc’s gpa standards. :frowning: most of my extracurriculars are relative to my major (and i am currently waiting for internship decisions!) i am only in one club on campus. lastly, i will be taking some ge classes this summer as a usc student.

i know usc is highly ranked, and they consider accepting those who have excellent scores. i was wondering what i can do for them to better my chances of getting admitted. i feel that having a leadership role and amazing essays contribute to being considered. regarding essays, i have taken a look at the essay prompts; i somewhat know what i am going to write.

your advice would be appreciated. and those who transferred to usc with an average gpa, i would love to hear from you!

@memerual If you are extremely set on USC why not transfer from a CC where it’s much more achievable? That being said if you do decide to stay at your school try to make yourself unique. Marshall is extremely competitive, of course, try to get the GPA up as high as you can and try to communicate with USC to see what classes they want you to complete. Maybe help out your community in some way by leveraging skills learned in your classes? Best of luck! Also, start your essays super early, and be sure to have a lot of eyes on them!

They are at a CSU, it would make no sense to move to a CC. USC doesn’t work like the UC system, it’s a private school. It is not more achievable from a CC. Just more apply from CCs compared to CSU or UCs. But they take just about as many from 4 years as 2 years.

You might want to check into courses you are currently taking or completed at your CSU and whether are transferable to USC courses. USC has an articulation agreement site that shows transferable courses to USC from CC/CSI/UC or selectied private colleges. Fulfill as many USC required lower division GE courses as you can and also meet as many Marshall prerequisites as possible.

Hi, I’m currently planning to transfer to USC Annenberg as a journalism major for fall 2021. By the time I transfer from my CC, I’ll be finishing my 3rd year with about 62 units. However because of this pandemic, this semester I’m only taking 9 units and 6 of them transfer to USC. I had to drop them but I have no Ws on my transcript. I contacted the admissions counselor who reviews the applications for my community college and he said it is fine because of the circumstances. My GPA is 3.62 and it’s probably on the upward trend.

I’m just curious if Annenberg will accept me if I got a B in one of my english classes and having two semesters of being part time student (one because of the virus) and getting a C in Stats. I was told to take another English class but I don’t know if it will help me if I got an A in it. Also, I’m worried that I cannot find an internship due to COVID-19 that it’ll make me less competitive. I already have employment and a club that I joined.

I just need some advice, Thank you.
