[li] Job/Work Experience: Numerous jobs ranging from 40-80 Hours/Week (sometimes working two jobs).
[/li]

[] Essays (subject and responses): “What Matters to Me and Why.” I described my family hardships: noting that I had 4 Ws from a previous attempt at school and maintaining a household. I extrapolated on how I built values upon that before I could realistically start college. I incorporated how I worked mostly 55 hours a week while maintaining school full-time – sometimes not sleeping for 3 days straight.
[] Letters of Recommendation: One from my English instructor (who went to UCLA – haha) and one more from my economics teacher describing my insight of a real-world investment firm, work ethic and overall knowledge of markets, economies and investments.

[] Comments: I’m an older student and the first in my family to attend college.

For future applicants: being a successful transfer starts with sacrifice. This is different for everyone, but the rule applies to anyone who wants to be a Trojan. Whether you’re a student only or concurrently work and go to school, you will sacrifice time and incur opportunity cost.

The bottom line lessons:
-Be realistic with yourself.
-It is not a numbers game by any means if every applicant is lackluster or has a perfect 4.0 with no character.
-Be someone with a positive outlook at all times.
-Maintain your goals. This is what will keep your nose to the grindstone. When your friends want to go out, you will have your nose in a book or a pencil to paper – or both.

Good luck to my current and future fellow transfers and Trojans!
