Don’t give up hope if you get rejected because it IS possible to get accepted next year if you really work on your school, essay, ECs, and more! DON’T lose hope.

[li] Comments: So stoked to get into Marshall! I’ve dreamed about going to USC since I was about 5 years old, but I screwed around in high school and got rejected when I applied as a freshman, worst day ever. Turned it around though, and worked hard for 2 years at UP to make myself competitive. I think my essay and my short answers really helped me too since USC is about more than just GPA (So don’t give up! I thought for sure I’d be rejected back in the fall). I got rejected from BC and NEU but there was no way I wanted to go east anyway so I rushed the apps. Just have to wrangle up the funds now! FIGHT ON!!![/li][/ul]

[] Job/Work Experience: N/A
[] Essays (subject and responses): Essay Prompt: “What Matters to Me and Why” asks faculty and staff to reflect on their values, beliefs, and motivations. Presenters talk about choices they have made, difficulties encountered, and commitments solidified. Write an essay about an event or experience that helped you learn what is important to you and why it is important.
- I’d like to say my admission’s essay was the best essay I had ever written in my entire life. Though the essay had a 700 word limit, I spent literally 20+ hours worth of labor reconstructing, rearranging, and forging my essay to it’s fullest potential with creative devices, metaphors, engaging/clever title, and well crafted prose. I had two of my English professors read it, and many of my friends, family members, all of whom offered valuable critiques and suggestions that just contributed to the overall quality of my paper. I wrote of my mother’s adversities during her childhood and how she developed her ideology and philosophies of having a loving family that she never had. I juxtaposed my mother’s creed and aspirations with my success during my freshman year of college and derived a sense of understanding of why I was able to attain meritable grades without the pressure of my parents, but with their sagacious guidance. I demonstrated a sense of maturity and growth because I wrote that I understood that my success in college was not achieved because of my individualism and hard work, but is achieved because of my mother’s sacrifice and her ways of my positive upbringing.
[] Letters of Recommendation: Received 2 from my English professors. They both actually wanted to work on the letter with me and asked me for suggestions of what they should include to supplement their ideas and compliments of me as a student. I was able to look at the letters before they submitted them and made a few changes with my professors. The letters looked really thorough and awesome and elaborated on my character as not only as a hard working student, but as a person who had a thorough understanding and awareness of the world around me.

[/ul]Other:[ul]
[] Other schools applied to: None, it was USC or bust!
[] Comments: I was always mediocre in high school and was never anything special or particularly smart, but in college, I found myself differentiating myself greatly from my peers and applying to USC really gave me the motivation and push to succeed in college. In the beginning of college, I was never the brightest student in many of my classes, but I was definitely the student who pursued higher education with the greatest fervor. In doing so, I soon found myself really being at the top of every class I took and established really good relationships with my professors. By a wanting to attend USC so badly, I ignited a flame of aggressiveness in my pursuit of knowledge and succeeding in college.

Going on College Confidential and being able to have my questions answered, answering questions of others, really gave me a bigger push to see how so many other people wanted to achieve the same goal I did. I truly appreciate what College Confidential has done for me and I hope whoever is thinking about applying will utilize this site to its fullest potential and make new friends through this long arduous application process.

I hope to see some of you at USC in the future, FIGHT ON!!
