USC Transfer Decisions Thread 2015

I would love to change but don’t know how to.

No problem thanks for starting it for us it’s been great so far! Anyone out there with a suggestion? If not then we just need to keep reminding those who have been accepted/SGR to keep those posts coming

My son completed(or in progress) 43 units before graduating from high school, which include the following courses: MATH245,MATH126,MATH114,ECON205,ECON203,WRIT130, a English writing course, introduction to C++, and a nutrition course.
He got 5s on AP Cal BC, AP Comp, AP Psy and 4 on AP USH.

If he want to apply 2015~2016 transfer, he will be a junior or sophomore student?
Does he need to declare major when he apply?
How many units he will be granted from USC for those courses completed( plus APs) before high school graduation?

What courses he needs to take from fall term 2015?
Thank you.

@taotao88 Your situation is unique. I would look up the USC counselor for your son’s school area (There is a page n their website that tells you what counselor is assigned for what district). They are helpful and will guide you with accurate information.

Thank you.

@juniorwhooper101 Hi! I am also a Marshall transfer applicant from a community college in bay area. For your Calculus class completed, how many calculus class have you done?In my college, I have done two classes-- Math 1A (introduction to differential calculus, including limits, derivatives and their applications to curve-sketching, families of functions, and optimization.) and the other is Math 1B (Introduction to integral calculus including definite and indefinite integrals, the first and second Fundamental Theorems and their applications to geometry, physics, and the solution of elementary differential equations.) However, I am now planning to drop my math 1C class this quarter(Introduction to functions of more than one variable, including vectors, partial differentiation, the gradient, contour diagrams and optimization. Additional topics include infinite series, convergence and Taylor series). I am not sure is this class a prerequisite to USC. Can you tell me how far have you done in the calculus classes? Thank you very much!

[
] Essays (subject and responses): The Common App essay: I wrote about what I want to do for neuroscience research; the other two I wrote about work and why I’m interested in neuroscience and political science (one of my minors, also minoring in economics)
[] Letters of Recommendation: One from AP chem teacher, one from English Professor; both probably good
[ /list][ b]Other:[ /b]
[ list]
[
] Other schools applied to: Boston University (Accepted), UNC Chapel Hill (Denied), Appalachian State (Accepted)
[*] Comments: I think my spring grades made the difference for BU (UNC did not have my spring grades and again my high school grades were crap) so I hope the same is true for USC! My AP’s Chem 4, Psych 4, Bio 3, USH 2

I have a question. How do I know that I got SGR? is it actually mentioned in the decision letter?

Aw, should have applied to USC. Too old to transfer next year.

Hi,
For those who were admitted, I have to send my final grades to usc so do they just want the spring grades or do they just want another official trancript that has all of our semesters?

Thank you!

Decision Date & Time: May 13th

Stats:

  • [ *] College transferring from: Mount San Antonio
    [ *] Entering as: Junior
    [ *] GPA: 3.5
    [ *] Units completed: 48
    [ *] Units in progress: 13
    [ *] Pre-reqs completed: All
[ *] GEs completed: Missing 2 or 3 GE requirements

Subjective:

  • [ *] ECs listed on app: Honors Student (completed program as well), have held three different officer positions for my honors club (currently VP), tons of volunteer hours from various organizations (Reading to Kids, LAWorks, my club, etc.), administrative assistant for a furniture company, mentor for autistic college students, my online business
    [ *] Job/Work Experience: none
[ *] Essays (subject and responses): My commonapp essay was poor in my opinion (my winter session was during this time, ugh). My USC supplements were great.
[ *] Letters of Recommendation: 1 from the Director of the Honors Program
[ *] Other schools applied to: UCLA, Cal, UCI, UCSB [All rejected except for SB]
[ *] Comments: I had a downward trend in Fall 2014 (due to personal issues) so that is probably why I got rejected from most of the schools. I’m glad that USC factored that in and gave me a chance to prove myself in the Spring semester.

Hi! So glad to meet so many people who are also applying for USC!
I am a newbie here and I just skimmed the past posts.
So happy to know a lot of good information as well as inspiration from other applicants!

And I have a question:
My current major is Information management and information system. And I apply for sociology in USC.
Yet somehow I regret and wish to change it to economics.
Will that affect my chance of admission?
And will AO evaluate applicants based on their majors, or in a more general way?

Thank you! Really wish that we can all meet in the USC and become alumni.
