USC Transfer Question! Changing/Switching Majors After Transfer?

Hello everyone, I am currently at a California community college near San Francisco and am hoping/planning to attend the Fall 2012 semester at a four-year Southern California college after transfer.

I am currently researching CSUs, UCs and private schools in the LA region and came across the University of Southern California. The college looks great! And would love to attend, if I'm admitted that is!

The major I intend on applying for at USC is Communication at Annenberg. I know for a fact that admission to Annenberg as a Communication major is extremely competitive, but I'm going for it anyway! By the time I apply later this year for Fall 2012 admission I hope to be done with all communication prerequisites (Mass Media of Communication, Linguistics, Sociology, Psychology, Politics, Statistics, Speech and Economics).

Thankfully the USC transfer application gives the opportunity of listing a first and second choice major. So I'm listing my first choice major as communications and my second choice major as anthropology (I've already taken 3+ anthropology classes and enjoyed them all!).

So my question is this, if I get rejected as a communications major and accepted as an anthropology major, what are my chances of changing/switching from anthropology to communications? Or how would I go about doing that?

Any information, suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi shaunsheezy,… I don’t have the answers to your questions, particularly because you would be switching between schools (CLAS to Annenberg). Maybe others here will.
In the meantime, just wanted to direct you to the USC Transfer thread, where you might find some info, or post your questions.

A lot depends on how competitive you are and how much “room” there is in the particular major/school you’re applying for. My D was originally a sociology major when she applied to USC, after she was admitted, she switched to undecided, then narrative studies in CLAS. Thereafter, she applied 3 times to School of Cinematic Arts & was accepted and happily enrolled now there. She was waitlisted twice for majors in that school (it had no openings for new students) while accepted for the other major.

There really aren’t any guarantees that you will get admitted into the school if you’re not admitted when you enter that USC, but you could try to get a minor in it if not admitted to major into it. Try speaking with the advisor for the school of communications
