So basically, I am considering applying to USC for admission for the Fall 2010 term. At the end of summer session, I will have 17 units completed, but by the end of the Spring 2010 term, I will have completed all 60 units required to transfer as a junior. However, transfer applications for USC are due February 1st, and I'm not sure if I'll have my Fall semester grades by then. My high school stats are not exactly up to par, which is why I'm attending a CC currently. My question is, since I'll be applying with only 17 units, will they still look at my high school grades even though I'll be transferring in with more than 30 units?

they will always look at your HS records, just less and less depending on how much college youve been through… in your case, at 17 credits, they would most likely look at it quite a bit

How do you plan to finish 43 credits in two semesters?

ns89: They would look at it a lot even if I told them how many I planned to complete? Like, I wouldn’t transfer in with only 30, I would just have less than 30 at the time of the application. By the end of fall semester I’ll have 36, but I don’t know if I’ll get my fall grades in time for the February 1st deadline. =/

fighting: I have 5 units from a summer school class in 2007, 12 from this summer that I’ve just earned, 19 in the fall, 7 in the winter intersession, and 17 or 18 in the spring, for a total of 60 or 61.

Well this is how it works, if at the time of your application you do in fact have less than 30 credits, they put a lot of weight on your HS transcript and ACT/SAT scores. I suggest that you do wait until you complete at least 30+ credits and then apply.

I emailed a USC admission counselor about this. This is what he said:

“We consider units in progress to count towards that 30 unit requirement. You don’t have to worry about getting them all done in the fall. Although we require our applicants to be full-time students make sure that you don’t overload yourself both semesters as ultimately your GPA is very important to”

So as long as you are in progress of those units they shouldn’t look at your high school record too much.

I am currently a freshman at UCR and I plan on transferring to USC after this year.
I know there are certain core requirements to transfer, is there an official place I can go to find these classes that are equivalent at UCR.

@BoricuaM: Your fall grades should be posted within a couple weeks following end of Fall semester so you should get them in January with a few weeks to spare.

@kobeftw: Here is the articulation history for UC Riverside and USC. You can use it to plan out what you take at UCR to cover the GE cats at USC. Keep in mind you must take CAT IV and VI at USC.

Here’s a link to the articulation agreement USC has with UCR… The only requirements to transfer to 'SC are intermediate algebra a college writing course and any particular major prerequisites. Good Luck

oops, notice i forgot to post the link, thanks mxbile131!

Hi everybody,
I am thinking to transfer from University of Houston majoring in music to USC in the same program. I got a partial scholarship from the music dept and my current GPA is 3.82.
I’m wondering if I decide to transfer, will at least my core curriculum credit be transferable?
Since I earn these credit from Texas institution, i need some advice from somebody who has experienced somewhat the same thing. And for those who are current or alumni of music program in USC, can you tell me how good is the environment there? does it support you in to get a gigs and opportunity?
Thanks for responding.
