USC Transfer ?

What does it mean if I received an email from financial aid, asking for my tax returns and to submit a CSS profile?
I haven't recieved an acceptance letter yet, so I am a little wary to send tax info without an acceptance.
Is this an indication that I have been accepted but the letter just hasn't reached its way to me yet?
Thanks,
Monica

you should ask in the transfer forum.

in general though, i applied to usc as a transfer, and it's just part of the process if you're seeking financial aid. even if they reject you or accept you, they want that information with them, because the sooner you turn it in the more funds will be available. the longer you wait, or if you wait until they accept you, the funds available will not be that great.

what's so wrong with sending the tax info? you're sending copies, not your actual taxes. what is the big fear? it's not like they're going to sell the information or give your personal info to every person that walks by. i can understand the css profile(since you actually have to pay for it, but it only benefits you to have that stuff in sooner rather than later)

I believe all institutions will ask for this whether or not you've been accepted.

I found it odd simply because to create a CSS profile, you have to pay fees. Though minimal, it seems to go against the entire purpose of receiving financial aid...

Thanks guys for the responses, the only reason I asked was because my D goes to LMU and they only ask for this kind of info for admitted students.....i mean why go through all that work and storage of paperwork for students who are not admitted...kind of a waste of time don't you think?.....oh and about being 'wary'....as an older person, anytime you release your personal information, there is a chance that the info could end up in the wrong hands.....also I wasn't sure if anyone else had received an email from SC asking for this information?

most people didn't receive that email, because most people already had submitted, and didn't wait to the last minute. there was apriority deadline, and those seeking the most financial aid, sought to meet that deadline.

Well i submitted my fafsa in feb. and I know I don't qualify for a cal-grant, so i didn't think that i needed to submit a css profile, since that is what it is for....but most schools don't need to actually see your tax returns physically until you are admitted...at least that is what UCI, UCR and LMU does.........
So I didn't wait for the "last minute".....it just isn't customary
