Harvard…

^ While the above may be a well-thought-out, carefully considered recommendation based on the information the OP has provided, there is no evidence of such included. Care to elaborate?

There is no wrong answer here, but it’s a big mistake to suppose that the social life at USC is more “open” than at Harvard. Only 30% of Harvard students went to private high schools. The percentage of the student body in final clubs is in dingle digits. USC is a great school, but the in-group, out-group dynamic does exist there, especially where the Greek system is concerned.

Visiting one last time Saturday. Any final thoughts or things we should see/do to help w final decision? Will many people be on campus?

pat,

This is Easter weekend for many students. Also finals are right around the corner as Commencement is May 13th. It may be quieter than usual.

If you have not already taken a guided tour that is a something you might enjoy. Even if you are not a cinema major do try and view the new School of Cinematic Arts. It is a $100 million dollar complex and many of the stages are named for famous individuals in the film industry. The fountain in the interior courtyard was a gift from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

See the interior of the Doheny Library. There you will find works of art and beautifully restored mosaics.

Look outside on the patio by the music school. Permanent music stands are there and students often practice outdoors under the shade trees. Legendary musicians such as Jascha Heifetz, Gregor Piatigorsky and Ingolf Dahl were faculty members in the historic school.

The community church on campus may be preparing for Easter. You might be able to hear the student choir rehearsing.

If it is open see the Game Pipe Laboratory in the Viterbi School of Engineering.

The new student center is completed and a good place to stop for lunch.

For a few moments of peaceful solitude visit the Little Chapel of Silence.

Have a great weekend…

Any more thoughts on what school will be the one?

D is in Cambridge loving life. Interestingly she has befriended a boy she met on USC scholarship weekend who also decided on harvard. Re:$ oh well you can’t take it with you. Good luck to all!

Just visited my son at USC…he is now a Mork scholar (upgraded from Trustee yay!)and loves his new school. He is so happy he didn’t attend Harvard now and frankly, with this economy, I am grateful for the scholarship. He is double majoring in Chemistry and business and he could not have done that at Harvard; he is also pledging a fraternity and has met some great guys(and girls). I think eventually the students end up in the right place. FIGHT ON!

patskid, great choice. Not to say USC doesn’t give a wealth of connections, but Harvard builds a network incomparable to any other institution here in the US which probably can’t be bought for any amount of money so I think your D made the right decision. The education at both of these top privates might be similar but the connections at Harvard are unparalleled.
