Could anyone post or DM me their stats, ECs, etc. if they got accepted for the University of Southern California’s tuition exchange?
No need. Since Tuition Exchange is real money transfer, USC accepts almost all applicants.
The information on the tuition exchange website Q&A:
"What is the percentage of newly admitted TE candidates offered a TE scholarship at USC for the current academic year?
The percentage is 11%-20%."
I had also heard that the hard part of getting TE at USC was getting accepted to USC, but it sounds like that is not true.
Does anyone know anything about USC’s requirement to maintain a 3.0 to keep the TE benefit? My son is a good student and has never had a grade below that mark but, with it being a whole new experience - classroom and social - it makes me nervous to put that pressure on him. Just wondering how they handle it.
DS just was admitted to USC and no word yet on TE. It is his first choice but TE will drive outcome. Website says 11-30 % get TE – earlier comment suggests otherwise. (Hoping TTrojan is correct!) Is 11-30 percent of all apps including not admitted. Greatly appreciate any insights anyone has. Stay healthy and safe! thx,
To all the 2020 admits to USC + TE applicants, congratulations! It is my firm belief that USC is the very best TE has to offer! Not only is it the highest ranked university offering TE, it also …
* goes well beyond the required minimum ($38,000 for 2020-21) to offer 80% OF TUITION (about $7500 additional this year), esp. useful as the cost of tuition goes up each year.
* STACKS MERIT, to allow for up to $8000 beyond tuition for room/board (NOTE: Contrary to what was reported by one poster on the USC Class of 2024 applicants page, your student does NOT have to be in campus housing all four years to receive the combined TE+merit benefits of up to $8000 beyond tuition. I have the official reply from FA on this if anyone is interested).
* allows TE to apply for study abroad.
In terms of timing, you should hear something in about two weeks if last year’s timing applies. We were notified that D19 and S19 both got TE at USC on April 9th. I guess it could be longer with all the remote work this year.
Afraid the current USC TE rep is fairly tight-lipped about any info. She never did indicate much by way of when decisions would be announced or criteria or percentages. A predecessor had been more forthcoming as reported by another cc parent.
Question for @ttrojan: Could you please explain the significance of “real money transfer” and why it seems to contradict the 11-20% offer rate indicated on the telo-usc page?
Good luck to all on your TE. Happy to answer any questions. This year, dealing with gnarly tax reporting issues, but at least it’s a good problem to have, and now we have until July 15th!
I agree with @CollegeOdyssey2001 that USC’s tuition exchange is the best there is. Being able to stack with merit scholarships is exceptionally generous, and I haven’t heard of many other colleges that will do that.
I’ve tried searching through some of the old threads, and I can’t find anyone who was admitted to USC and denied TE, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. I guess we’ll know for sure here in a couple of weeks. I’m hoping TE decisions will come out with scholarships and FA, even though I know that’s not how it worked in the past.
Congratulations, uscfighton! on your Presidential Scholarship! That will pair very nicely with TE. Hang tight. You should hear about TE in a couple weeks, hopefully. My two kids got merit scholarship and TE. Another classmate of my kids also got Presidential and TE, so you should be getting good news soon I hope!
Will post when we hear! Thanks for the positive messages/thoughts - something good to read for a change. Fight on.
Hey @hcbcdad looks like we’re both waiting for decisions! I’ll also post here when we hear something. I have found the TE process overall to be very stressful, without a lot of really solid information. I’ll be glad when it is finally decided!
OK folks, for those of you awaiting TE notification from USC, I got some limited info:
-
Notification Date: No date other was offered other than “by May 1st” for notification, which is not very helpful. However, it appears that decisions for 2020-21 have been made, so hopefully, it will be any day now. Again, last year it was April 9th, about two weeks after the RD admissions.
-
Offer Percentage Rate: Also, we can put to rest the “real money transfer” theory discussed in this thread that suggests all admitted to USC will be awarded TE. The offer percentage rate for 2020-21 is reportedly 16%, making the USC page on the TE website correct, which reported the 11-20% offer percentage range.
-
Award Criteria: I tried getting more info on the critieria, but was referred to an announcement about the profile of a recently admitted class. Thus, I presume at 16% offer rate, TE operates at USC like it does at many schools, as yet another merit award (since it is not random or first-come, first-served).
-
Spring Admits: Are eligible for TE but subject to same vague award criteria as other applicants/admits.
Wish there was more, but hope this helps. Good luck to all of you!
Thanks, @CollegeOdyssey2001. I’m all about taking the tiniest piece of evidence and extrapolating to the moon, so this will keep me busy for days!
Crossing my fingers for you @VryCnfsd and all others awaiting USC TE!
Has anyone heard anything new about TE decisions? It’s so hard to wait!
So hoping you get notified tomorrow or Friday. Don’t know why it takes USC so long to release TE when the traditional deadline of May 1st is just a few weeks later. Good luck, and be sure to post so we can have better records of the actual acceptance rate. If you don’t want to post to the thread, feel free to PM me at @CollegeOdyssey2001 and I’ll track the acceptance rate that we have among reported 2019-20 applicants for Fall 2020 admission.
Thank you! I will let you know. My daughter is at USC with tuition exchange. It would be so awesome if her brother can join her!
Yeah I am also waiting for tuition exchange as a senior in high school. It seems at least I am not getting it today because I have informed delivery and there was nothing from USC office. Fingers crossed that some of y’all get it today and I happen to get it tomorrow.
I assume they also let people if they don’t get it?
let people know*
Just curious, did those of you who are waiting for TE already sign up for housing?
@whodat13 D20’s other notifications of TE came via email or on the Tuition Exchange portal itself. We haven’t received any paper. Don’t know how USC does it.
I already signed up for housing cause you can do that before committing and its first come first serve.
Also I only assumed mail cause I know GWU and BU did it that way but they also notified through an email like a day or two later.
