Heyy!
I’m a little bit confused by the new SAT scoring and I just wanted to know what are my chances. I want to apply to the film schools of USC, UCLA LMU UC IRVINE and Chapman.
I’m an international student from Spain.
New SAT: 1330 / 1600
GPA: 3.5/4 uw 4.4
I’m a full IB Diploma student with a 39/40 predicted
EC: varsity soccer, varsity volleyball, captain of a really well known volleyball club, national champion, played the piano for 11 years, speak 4 languages, was community manager on an international refugee project, I produced short films for a university course.
Thank you for your help!
@bcnbound Is your 4.4 a UC GPA?
Since we are talking film school:
USC - rejected
UCLA - slight chance
LMU, UCI, Chapman - good chance
Yes because of IB classes @emory323
@bcnbound I know your GPA is weighted, but is it calculated from your sophomore and junior years? UC’s do not count freshman and senior grades.
Yes! My gpa for my 10 and 11 grades is actually a 4.38 for uc’s system!
Based on what you’ve provided, I predict this:
USC - Rejected/waitlisted (low SAT)
LMU - Accepted (very likely!)
Chapman - Accepted (very likely!)
UCLA - Rejected/waitlisted (low SAT)
UCI - Accepted (very likely!)
Your GPA is extraordinary and your extracurriculars are great! However, your SAT is below average for USC and UCLA. USC especially cares about SATs so be mindful of that. Your grades and EC’s might get you in them, but you are certainly not a shoo-in. Bring your SAT up to at least a 1400 then you will have very good chances. Good luck!
I retook the SAT on June but I don’t have my results yet so maybe that’ll help! Thank you so much for your time it is really helpful! @emory323
Film is a portfolio based major for admissions purposes. GPA and SAT are less important than your portfolio. Also most of these schools have extremely low admission rates for their film programs. All of these schools are a lottery. Create your portfolio now. Each school has their own requirements for what that should look like.
