EC activities: *** denotes leadership position (required election)
1. Italian Club President (11,12)-- secretary in 9 and 10 ***

American Cancer Society Club President (12)-- served as VP in 11 and member in 9 and 10 **

Event Chair of Relay for Life- essentially, the top position. (elected to lead committee of students for planning our community's Relay for Life which typically raises $80,000) (12) *
*
In 10 and 11 I was the head of the Entertainment committee. This takes nearly 60 hours of planning on my part for the event, and after the event I lead the committee in other activities (for example, raising money for a student at my school suffering from cancer whose family is having a hard time financing health expenses and a stable living situation for the student's siblings) **

Volunteer for many many hours at an organization in the urban area near me that houses cancer patients (children)-- I work on the living conditions for these patients and their families by making holiday cards, painting, cleaning, organizing, making the place a nice place for the brave kids! I also tutor the patient's siblings.

Intern/volunteer/shadow at my local hospital's cancer center

I've played piano for 11 years, some awards from my conservatory!

Flute and Piccolo which I play in my school's band (first chair), my region's orchestra (first chair), my school's musicals, competitions (with some awards), and my region's honor band, and a flute "choir" of mostly professional flautists

Mental Health Awareness Club President and Founder (11,12)-- founded after personal experience
While this is registered as a club, it is more of a support group for those suffering from depression, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, etc., or those whose family or friends are suffering from those illnesses. It's a big part of my life and has over 50 members. *

Varsity Tennis (9,10,11,12)- Captain next year (with my doubles partner, so co-captain I suppose!) *
*

Hopefully participating in a research program this summer, whether it be a paid program or research with a professor

Robotics team member (though, no leadership position)

Possibly next year's band president, though I don't know yet.

Work experience. I am not sure which to include. Can you advise?

I worked at a sales associate at Nordstrom for sophomore and junior year, a tennis camp counselor for every summer
I teach flute and piano to elementary school/ middle school students. I charge very little to nothing because most of my students cannot afford to pay a teacher.

Recommendations: Planning on getting these from my language and english teachers. However, I'm planning on studying biology. Should I also get one from my biology teacher? They should be very good, really. I'm very involved in the classroom and in helping my peers, which they recognize.

You have a very solid chance (obviously Ivy’s and Ivy equivalents are a reach), but in your next post try to condense…we don’t need to see every class that you have taken, just summarize. Yes try to improve your ACT, and get those 5’s on your AP exams and write strong essays.

You have a good shot at every single one of those schools with your stats

Wow… this is a really solid application! No one could consider Ivy leagues to be a match, but I certainly woulden’t be surprised if you were accepted to more than one of them. Congratulations on an outstanding academic record and good luck! :D

Would this be a good list to apply to, or would you suggest adding some safeties?? @JHU518

I think it’s pretty solid. If money for app fees isn’t an issue I might suggest adding a few more UCs, otherwise I think your list looks good! You should get into at least half of the ones listed, if not more.

Thanks so much  Do you have any suggestions for improvement in ANY area? I’m a junior, so I got time!

Nope, just write wonderful essays!

And keep your grades up (esp. this semester) of course.

@JHU518 of course  I’m doing my best. I really think I can repeat all A’s. (hopefully no minuses, though I don’t even care if schools care-- I CARE!).

Would you suggest writing essays about my activities or rather myself? Who I am, other small things I do that make me particularly interesting? I’m debating!

It depends entirely on what the prompt asks. Generally with the common app you talk about yourself, and for the specific college supplements you can talk more about your activities and interests.

Thanks :)!

bump
