Hello, I am currently a senior in a California looking at colleges I am going to apply to this year. I am just trying to get a better idea of my chances at each of these schools. So it would be wonderful if someone could tell me my chances in their perspective !

Academic Profile--
- I am an caucasian female in a public high school in CA. (my schools is in the top 2% of CA public schools)
- unweighted GPA: 3.6 & weighted GPA: 3.8
- UC gpa: 3.85 (appx.)
- GPA's for sophomore year: 3.667 & junior year: 4.16
- The main reason for my lower GPA my sophomore year was the fact that I was struggling with an undiagnosed sleep disorder that interfered with my daily performance in school. I don't know if this will make much of a difference but nevertheless I wanted to bring it to light (I will mention this in my apps).
-SAT score: 1950/ SAT superscore: 1990
- SAT II's: retaking Literature & Math II in a month
-ACT score: taking in September
- AP/honors courses taken: AP Euro (exam score 4), AP Lit (exam score 3) & Honors Spanish
- taking AP Psychology, AP Government, AP Spanish & Honors Anatomy this year

Extracurricular Profile:

- Member of other various school clubs
- I will make sure I have stellar essays & my teacher recommendations should be strong

... So if you don't mind I would greatly appreciate feedback of any kind on my chances at the different schools I have listed. Thank you !

Just a note: No teacher recommendations for most of the schools (UCs and CSUs) on your list. Of your listed schools, only USC will accept recommendations.

Ah thank you ! I had forgotten about that.

USC and UCLA will be reaches given scores, but the others are match schools. SLO will be a safety if you’re in their service area.

i think your pretty good. You gpa is definitely low for all of those schools, and it really depends on how receptive they are to your condition.

Sorry but slo is not a safety school.
If you want a saftey, apply to UCSC or UCR, but you definitely have a chance at all of the schools. If they read your essay and are sympathetic, then i think you have a pretty decent shot and all of them (LA and USC are still reaches, but atainable)

If they dont understand then Santa Cruz or Riverside will be your safety

Thank you for your opinion Redroses ! And by service area do you mean if I reside locally to the school? If so, I live up in northern CA in the east bay of San Francisco so I’m not sure if that would be close enough to be considered a service area.

Thank you mccormickt12 ! But I will not be applying to UCR & UCSC since there is no draw for me to attend those schools. However, I will also be applying to a few other schools such as Loyola Marymount, University of San Diego, Seattle University, University of Washington & others that I am still on the fence about.

If you can afford these others, they are good bets.

Service area unfortunately means the CSU you’re closest to which sounds like East Bay for you.

HAHAHAH CSU eastbay
If you want a really good up and coming school for engineering it is San Jose St.
Im not sure where you live, but you said bay area so you should know where that it.

Yes, unfortunately CSU East Bay would be the closest CSU to where I live. & I definitely know about SJSU. However, I am not looking to go into engineering. I am more of the liberal-artsy creative type who is strong in basically anything other than mathematics and mathematics-oriented sciences (ex. physics). I don’t know where that will take me just yet but I do know I have a strength in writing so the possibilities are quite broad. Journalism, advertising/marketing, writing for film/television, & PR are just some of the few things I am interested in. I don’t know if that makes any difference as far as my chances go though.

For other people looking at this. I would still appreciate your opinions. & I forgot to add (not that it would make a monumental difference or anything) that I was freshman class secretary in 9th grade.

If you are averse to mathematically oriented subjects why would you be interested in Cal Poly SLO since its strongest programs are all in engineering and science?

Mainly, due to money (low in-state tuition) & their style of teaching. I am more attracted to the “learn-by-doing” philosophy rather than the theoretical approach that the UC’s to go by. However, I am not saying that I am not opposed to the UC’s ideologies at all. Actually, I am taking a tour of Cal Poly next weekend so I will be able to learn more there but the school is definitely not my first choice at the moment. However, it is a smart option as far as finances go so that’s why it is on my list. Anyways, even if I was interested in engineering or some sort of science there I would have a very slim chance in getting into those departments given my grades.
