USC Undergrad Interview: Any Tips?

Hey,

I've got an interview for Viterbi coming up later this month. I'm a senior in high school, applying for the Computer Science/Business Administration major. I was just wondering if anyone has some key pointers or tips, anything that I should take note of for my interview. All help appreciated - thanks!

Dress well, and be yourself. Dont be (too) nervous, if your interview is similar to mine, the interviewers are very nice and laid back.

What kinds of questions did they ask you? Is there anything an applicant can do to be better prepared?

I also have the same thing but for the Marshall school, any specific pointers as well?

It's not even necessary. I didn't interview and was accepted, although I was in CLAS

bump. anybody else wanna throw in their 2 cents?

make sure you at least have the very basic questions answered; it will also make you less nervous. although I never had an interview at USC, i had for a few other college. KNOW things like:
Why that school? ..why usc in general?
why did you pick your major... what got you interested in it?
basic things like that under your belt.

Please forgive my ignorance, but are these interviews part of "Meet USC" (the meeting with a department representative)? S is signed up for Meet USC, but nobody has mentioned signing up for an interview in addition. Thanks!

Meet USC is not the interview. You have to sign up for the interview separately.

Your first choice should be to try to get an interview appointment with the school you are applying to (Marshall for Business, Viterbi for Engineering, etc.) If there are no appointments available with your school (they fill quickly), make an appointment with admissions ("students applying to all other academic programs...").

Remember that interviews are not required but I think it can help you if you prepare and try to stay relaxed.

Thanks cc411! Do you know if Cinematic Arts does freshman interviews? It's not mentioned on the cntv website, as far as I can tell.

The School of Cinematic Arts does not do undergrad interviews and they do not look at the interview at all for admissions. You can interview with admissions and your interview will be considered under review of the general committee (admission to CLAS.)

I didn't interview, but I also got in (Marshall). I don't think it's that important, but it certainly could help in make-it-or-break-it situations.

I applied RHP to CALS last year and got in without an interview. I chose not to go, so this year I am reapplying to USC and chose to have an interview in my hometown. It was very laid back, I think I was the most excited/nervous person in the room (there were multiple interviews taking place at the same time) lol. I gave my interviewer a resume and we talked about my extracurriculars, classes and why I wanted to go to SC. The interviewer was really nice and friendly. =)
