My friend told me that UCSD's is the 3/2 Program? Can anyone help out?

You could try contacting your region rep? Maybe they could give extra information. Mine was very helpful and always got back to me within 24 hours whenever I had a question.

UCSD might have a 3/2 program but the one i foudn was specifically a 5 year masters. http://www.ece.ucsd.edu/docs/FiveYearBS-MEngProgram.pdf

Thanks! I'll be sure to contact my region representative.

Thanks for that too. So isn't that and USC's 5-year programs basically the same?...

kinda. at USC i can do a BS in ME and an MS in EE, and also i dont have to compete with people at USC its just a matter of gettinr 3.5 GPA at UCSD i have to have at least a 3.5 to be competitive, but that doesnt guarantee me entrance

"Since you are a current Trojan in the engineering school, can you shed some light as to how difficult it would be to get a 3.5 GPA. And alos do you think it would be possible to do the 5 year program doing a BS in ME and MS in EE as well as minoring in the new SITeC minor?"

I don't like to boast about my past, but I had a 4.25 weighted cum. GPA coming out of high school, and ended up with a 3.2 GPA last semester. To be honest, it's going to be hard for me to pull a 3.0 this semester. So, because of the fast pace of college and the fact that your grade may depend on literally 2 midterms and a final, you might find it diffcult to get even a high B. Not saying everyone will, but even as a confident high school student, I'm still tweaking my study habits. Engineering will prove even harder, because a lot of the majors will require a number of 18-unt, 5 class semesters. All depends on what teachers you end up getting (check SenateCourseGuide.com before you register, and for EE's, try to go with Redekopp or Puvaada and avoid Mayeda).

I don't know much about the SITec minor, but I would think if you can get the BS in EE and the SITec minor completed within 4 years, it possible to get the MS also in 5 years, but it will probably be a ton of work, probably including some summers taking classes at USC. As it is for me, I'm a BMEE major and I have at least 4 more 18-unit, 5-class semesters I have. And that's without a minor.

If you want more details, I recommend you contact Matthew O'Pray in Viterbi admissions at (213) 740-4530 or opray@usc.edu, or if you're going to be on campus, make an appointment with him in RTH 110. (obviously only applies to engineering students)

Beammeup, thanks for all your helpful info.

Was college that big of a difference? ><

Since I havent gotten a response from the official viterbi email about the 5 year masters program I emailed Mathew with my question about the program and if my plan, stated above, was too ambitious. Ill keep anyone that wants to hear posted after I get a response.

haha, depends on the person. I blame myself partly because I started to slack off during senior year and it carried over.

confucius:

I would like to be informed :) I also emailed someone at USC, so maybe I might get a hold of some more information. When I do, I'll be sure to tell you.

beammeup4:

lol...yeah that transition from HS senior to college freshman might take a little getting used to...I hope I'll get back into school mode once I start college.

well I got a reply from Mathew and this is what he said:

"This is not a simple yes or no answer. I can go into better detail on the phone if you want to give me a call. The short answer is: it might be possible. There are a bunch of factors that will play into this: AP/IB/CC courses already done? Summer Plans? Your ability to adjust to the higher expectations at college, USC, Engineering. It is certainly possible and we can help you figure out how to make it work, but a lot depends on you and depending on you it might take 5 and 1/2 to do this or it might take less than 4.. it depends on you. And, the 3.5 may or may not be in place for you at that time....."

so basically its all relative to your situation and your goals.

So basically, it's just wait until your junior year and see what happens...
