What's USC Viterbi School of Engineering's computer science and engineering undergraduate degree program's reputation like in Silicon Valley? How well respected is it, and how high are a graduate's chances of finding a software development job in the Valley?

I don’t have the answer, but I’d like to hear what others’ have to say. My son is a sophomore at Viterbi in computer science, who is wondering if he should transfer to a school with a higher ranked CS program.

All I know is that if you search on linkedin for “software intern” and then look down on the lower left where they summarize the results, USC is #5 on the list. Who know what this really means (program size? no one can get real jobs?) but I think this is a good sign.

One trend driving this is most likely the up and coming “Silicon Beach” area in LA/Santa Monica. But you could also say that the entrepreneurial nature of USC’s CS and Business programs are partially responsible for a growing high tech scene. Regardless, USC graduates no longer have to look to Silicon Valley/SF for tech jobs.

USC CS is a top-20 program with a lot of positives and I wouldn’t worry about it.

I think USC is great for entrepreneur but I’ve heard it’s CS program is going through changes. Facebook only recently recruited at USC in 2012. Google USC or whatever college you want Computer Science undergraduate and you get more accurate and honest opinions of students who actually going there are just graduated from there.
Quartz had an article on what companies hire where the most base on LinkedIn profiles. I think from memory only Facebook has the most USC graduates.
