I'm a prospective international relations major and I would like to get more info about Dornsife College and its international relations program. Also, how supportive is it financially with sending students abroad?

I was also accepted to the Elliott of International Affairs at GW and also to Swarthmore College. I realize that all three schools are very different but if anyone could give me insight as to pros/cons of each, that would be great! I received approximately the same financial aid at all three, although Swarthmore has offered to give the most so far and without loans.

I can only give you info on GW (D is a current Jr. there, Elliott school, studying in China for a year). I can say this: Experience for her has been life changing in every way. Profs that are currently working in the field for 1. Excellent guidance department - she has used this many times to tweak her degree (minor in sociocultural anthropology). If politics/economics is your flavor of IR - you won’t be alone. Instead of MTV on the school’s monitors around campus, it is CNN. Students have lots of fun, many activities and my impression from visiting is that most are “movers” meaning they are very actively involved in life. D is in a sorority and a member of the ballroom dance team.
Negatives: busy campus with traffic that moves through Foggy Bottom (the Vern is so much more peaceful!) Lots of red tape if you have a question/problem for administration. Registering for classes as a freshman was a nightmare coming from the west coast (4am wake up - with lots of frustration). No complaints after that first experience though. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.

We did tour USC when D was applying and she really liked the campus and the IR program. She ultimately wanted to be on the east coast/DC though and ended up applying to GW ED. Sorry no knowledge of Swarthmore.

btw…have a S that was just accepted to USC (not IR) - not trying to ■■■■■. Your thread caught my eye. Good luck - such great schools to choose from!

Thanks for your input squiggles! I’ll put these things into consideration as I make my decision. :)
