usc vs northeastern

Hey guys! I need some information on a few things. I would like to know how difficult the Marshall program at USC is and if I can transfer from Dornsife to Marshall before fall 2019. If not, how hard is internal transfer from Dornsife to Marshall. I also heard about grade deflation in the Marshall school. Is that true? And last but not least, I want to go into investment banking in the future and assuming I have good grades, I was wondering how networking is at USC and which top firms recruit from there and if it’s easy to get internships in the east coast (it would be convenient for me because I’m from the east coast). Sorry for all the questions. I would really appreciate if you could help me out here. Thank you so much!!

And coming to Northeastern, I heard that the co-ops program is really good. I requested for a major change (cuz the major i put down was economics and i changed it to finance). I was wondering how easy it is to get good grades here and if internships are easy to get, assuming that I have good grades. And if I have good grades, is it easy to get recruited from northeastern.

I visited both schools and liked the environment. I know I’m stressing the point of grades in this post. I’m an outgoing person who does well in social environment so im like good at talking and doing well in interviews. I study hard but I’m not a very very good test taker. I hope this makes sense and many of my friends in IB told me that if i have good grades, it’s easy to get recruited (ofc u have to have internships and good interviews but u know what i mean).

Please help out here. I really need advice. Thank you so so much. I really appreciate it.

Marshall is a highly competitive program at USC. I cannot speak to how arduous the actual course of study is, but securing a spot via internal transfer prior to Fall 2019 is unlikely. I would inquire directly with Marshall’s admissions office to see however. Usually, an internal transfer is a new application process requiring approval. And it may only be possible to do so as soon as the Spring of 2020. Transferring into Dornsife would be rather easy, but not the other way around. Networking at USC is one of its greatest strengths. I suggest scouring the Marshall website, especially searching for items like recruiting and internships.

Good luck with your decision…

To transfer from Dornsife to Marshall, you’ll need to take the some of the business school prerequisites and have a good GPA (I am guessing 3.5+). Maybe you have credit for calculus, but there would be other classes such as writing, basic accounting… Talk to your USC counselor or go to the Marshall website.

You can’t do it before fall, you have to register for an info session at Marshall about transferring in where they will tell you what above posters were mentioning…you sign up for the transfer info session to apply for a future semester (one or two out). The want to see math and econ done before you apply to transfer. It is one of the harder schools to move into at USC.

Frankly, it sounds like your life is and wants to remain on the east coast and Northeastern with their co-ops seems like a great choice for you. You will make east coast connections there and a connection may make up for grades to some degree. But if you want to go into IB, you gotta make the grades wherever you go, that is one intense profession - the interviews for IB can be hours of tests with months of preparation for the interviews - a close friend of ours just went through that. There are a lot of sharp people competing for spots. Of course starter gigs may be less grueling to get into and connections are key, but IB certainly takes more than good social skills. So put in the time to get better at tests and grades wherever you go. Good luck!
