I'm having a really tough time deciding between these two! I plan to major in communications and media studies, and was accepted to the communications schools at both universities. My biggest drawback from Northwestern is the cold weather, but I love Chicago. USC has an amazing campus and alumni network, but I'm a little overwhelmed by the size of the student body. I would appreciate any thoughts (especially on the communications programs).

I had the same situation: I got into Northwestern as a biomedical engineer, but chose USC.

USC is indeed a big school, but the quality of the academics and services that USC offers makes it feel like a smaller school. And as students in the specialty schools (communications, engineering), we get even more specialized attention.

I'm not sure where in the US you come from, but Los Angeles is also a great city if you've never been here.

LA is a city that most either love or hate it. It's very different from Chicago. I personally like SF, Chicago, NYC much more than LA.
