My son who intends to major in Cs has offers from Usc Viterbi, UC Davis Cs major and santa Clara University. As an international student the cost differential is not significant and we will ignore that. Which is the best choice? He also has an offer from UVA.
i know uva has a great cs program but i would go with usc viterbi - although, it comes down to fit and what your son likes the most
Usc
USC or UVA, definitely
USC, unless your kids really doesn’t like something about it, in which case, UVA.
Santa Clara has the benefit of being in Silicon Valley - their students get fabulous internship opportunities.
Both USC and Santa Clara are top feeder schools to Silicon Valley, but USCs CS program is far better known.
You won’t have a hard time finding a job with a degree from any of the schools mentioned. It’s really more about fit and which school your son is comfortable with.
Some years ago, Santa Clara University was University of Santa Clara, so “USC” was a somewhat ambiguous abbreviation even just within California.
USC, SCU, or UVa.
Go with fit.
Among the three, USC has more reputation internationally, so it could be also a factor to consider as an international student.
The numbers were from sources like LinkedIn, do I don’t think that confusing the two was an issue, though who knows?
On the other hand, Santa Clara is a smallish university, and the fact that it is a feeder school to Silicon Valley means that it has a CS program that is pretty respectable and recognized in the tech industry.
