USC vs UCLA Mechanical Engineering

So I got into USC and UCLA for ME and I’m stuck deciding between the two.

USC:

  • Got the presidential scholarship which is $25,000 a year
  • Smaller class sizes
  • ME scholar so I get special seminars/ connections
  • Beautiful campus
  • I like the engineering + program and the whole “hands on” approach
  • More connections (USC alumni)
  • My dad went so I’d be legacy
  • Sketchier surrounding neighborhood though
  • Also even with the scholarship it’s still $10,000 a year more than UCLA
  • I don’t know anyone going there

UCLA

  • Cheaper than USC
  • I love the Westwood area (I didn’t really want to go to school in the city and UCLA feels less like the city than USC)
  • I got a scholarship for $1,000 for a research project my sophomore year
  • Lots of my friends attending
  • I have an internal bias of UCLA being better than USC
  • More people = lots of connections but I’m scared I’ll be lost in the crowd

Overall I like both but I don’t know which one is better. Anyone have any advice regarding the particular engineering departments at each school? Is it easy/ hard to get classes? How are the class sizes? Also what’s the atmosphere like at each? I don’t want a party school so…
Any insight you guys have would be great! Thanks so much

Seriously UCLA is better than USC in terms of mechanical engineering and is cheaper
Since u already got scholarship, i think UCLA suits u best

Hi do you mind sharing where you chose to go? And how do you like the experience so far?
