USC vs. UCLA vs. Berkeley

Being accepted into all 3 I think these are my most realistic choices. What does everyone think?

USC: Good size, large sports, awesome spirit, nice small campus (probably the best of the 3), alumni connections, crappy area, good weather, reputation on the rise, yet not Berkeley, LA, or Stanford quite yet, seems fun, best women

UCLA: Beauitful beautiful school, best weather, nice surronding area, very big size, big but beautiful campus, large sports (not as succesful as SC and most facilities are off campus, Rose Bowl), great reputation, seems fun, pretty good women

UC Berkeley: Best reputation of them all, very big size, beautiful campus (better organized than LA but not better organized than SC), crappy yet interesting area, big time sports getting better every year with all facilities on campus, close to SF (good or bad thing?), seems like it would be least fun of these 3, most competitive for sure, student body may be odd, I heard they have the second worst women behind Stanford

What do you guys think? I just gave a summary of the three schools from my knowledge and what I have heard. I’m looking to major in a science/nueroscience and maybe a minor in psychology/philosophy and probably go into medicine. I’m looking for an amazing student body where people aren’t completely into the grade and filling their resumes but look outward instead of inward and think about the bigger picture. An intellectual student body with goals set is an ideal environment (good women wouldn’t hurt either).

I was accepted into all 3 with an open major and accepted into the Honors College at UCLA (not quite sure what this is yet). I also received the Presidential scholarship from USC which pays for half-tuition. But I’m not sure if I could give up UCLA and Berkeley for SC which might be at the same level academically yet.

What do you all others think who are making this same decision?

Emory is also an out of state option for me…

I'm in the same situation, although now i'm pretty sure im headed to USC. I am intending to go to medical school later on, and based on your stats, I suggest that SC is a great fit. You can double major, or minor easily, and SC is great all around. UCLA was just too big for me, and I felt like a freakin number. I fell in love with SC's campus, and its rankings are increasing by a lot each year. Also, I hear there's a new research dept opening up on SC increasing research by like 23 percent! It's a great time to be part of the Trojan Family!

I do like USC, I just don't know though...

u people are so lucky...i'm dying to go to berkeley and i'm a transfer student, so i have to wait until the end of april to find out...i would personally pick berkeley b/c u'll have a better chance of getting into medical school b/c of their reputation.

what does women have to do with anything??

Because I like women... lol.

nah i understand, well if i were to rank where you should go, i'd say, berkeley first, then UCLA second, and USC third choice.

Hmm, for what reasons?

well, the reports of ugly girls at berkeley is grossly inaccurate, you just need to know where to look (as with all colleges). besides, depending on major, berkeley's academic programs, most if all.....are well noted, so should you decide to change majors, you dont have to worry about not being in such a great program. and our sports is very good too =P

Just throw out USC right now.
That will make your choice much easier.

Otherwise, Berkeley is probably the right choice. A lot of people say Berkeley doesnt have the right area, but it really depends on your personality.

dmcwhiz, so there ARE hot girls there?

just kidding, i'm not that shallow. (but there are, right?)

do certain schools (School of Chemistry, or School of Engineering) have more guys than girls?

kratos: of course there is, wanna see a slideshow?

wickedwildthang: generally, for engineering, they have more guys than girls

USC academics are NOT on par with UCLA or Berkeley. It falls far behind those two. (Unless for film)

I turned down UPenn Wharton and Cornell for Berkeley. THe comparison against USC is kind of funny. Not to sound arrogant or anything. OK I sound arrogant, so sue me.

I think SC is climbing and climbing fast, I think right now it might at par with LA and has Berkeley in sight.

I don't think so. Just from staying at USC and driving around UCLA, I can tell they're in completely different leagues. UCLA feels like a world class institution, it's so big and there are people in lab coats walking across the street and every student is talking on a cellphone. USC seems a little more laid back, students are more average, the place is a lot smaller and feels like a very good state school. And it's certainly nowhere near Berkeley. Oh, and the girls that I saw weren't THAT great. I saw one incredibly beautiful girl in jeans holding hands with an average looking guy. That's about it. It might be worth it to go to USC just to wait for them to break up then pounce, but that's up to you.

SC, academically does not rank with UCLA or Berkeley. 'SC is still just known for film and it's football. It does have any particular strenghts in certain areas other than film. Take for example, Georgetown. It is the same rank with UCLA and by your standards, it would be the same as USC. Yet Georgetown's programs outshine USC's anyday simply because of the strenght of the their School of Foreign Service.

report of ugly girls is inaccurate? i'd say truthfully if you look in the right places (kpphi, sigmas, etc.), you will be alright. but overall, the average is really bad, honestly. i like girls so this matters to me. on the other hand, some ppl could care less how ppl look. i've heard that only stanford is worse.

USC is a piece of *****.
