I've recently been admitted to all three, and in all honesty, I cannot make up my mind about which to choose! I'm a California resident, so UCLA is much cheaper, but I'm very worried about the recent budget cuts the UCs are going through and scared that I won't get the same kind of opportunities at UCLA as i would at a private. I don't qualify for need based aid for any school, but finances are not TOO big of an issue.. what do you guys think? Which of the three would be a better choice?

Congratulations! All three universities are exceptional. If you have definite career plans then deciding can be simpler. Look at the course offerings in your proposed major; look up the professors who teach the more advanced courses; research how well new grads do in the job market. If you haven’t decided on a career, then revisit the schools. Stay overnight in New York, and take a class or two in NYU. If you haven’t yet, do the same at USC and UCLA.

The USNews and World Reports rankings of the schools are very similar (UCLA=24, USC=26, and NYU=32).

really depends on your major/career goals

business and want to work on wall street? go to NYU
business and want to work in L.A.? go to USC
engineering? go to USC
economics? go to NYU
thinking med/dental/pharm/etc? go to the cheapest, guessing UCLA

^^^Agree. If the extra $125K or so isn’t an issue, skip UCLA.

^^^ I second. I go to Berkeley and currently experiencing the mess that’s going on with the UC budget cuts. The UCs are not worth attending, even with the subsidized cost. The Economist magazines states that it will be about 20 years till California public education gets back to the shape it once was. Since, you are planning to graduate before them, If you can afford it, then go to USC or NYU. They are both stellar universities with solid endowments and are located in the 2 best cities America has to offer.

Do you understand the value of $125,000?

Even with the budget cuts (which haven’t affected UC undergrads directly too much from what I’ve heard on these boards), UCLA + potentially $125k savings >>>> NYU or USC.

I subscribe to the Economist magazine…please point me to the article.

They’re hoping to restore funding in this year’s California budget discussions.

how about if i want to major in science/engineering? (something that’s related to biotechnology/genetic engineering) which one is better? USC or NYU?

to shinywing:
USC

their engineering school is strong and you can double with science
