USC vs UCLA

No I'm not talking about the game. haha allthough I will be watching it. In regard to their engineering departments, which one is better? I hope to major in Mech Eng. Which has better facilities, reputation, academic rigor, and research opportunities? I appreciate your guys' feedback!

ps. maybe I should decide based on who wins the game.(im kidding)

I am having the same curiosity on which is a better school. They both have their pros and cons. For me, USC would have to be way better in a dept. to pay the extra money to go there

anyone have any input? :)

As a research school in engineering, USC wins as it is a private university. I was enrolled at USC for a year and there were plenty of openings for undergraduates to start helping out with research.

For reputation, I believe the ranking usually ends up with Cal, UCSD, USC, UCSB and UCLA in that order.

[ARWU Field 2009 ENG](http://www.arwu.org/ARWUFIELD2009ENG.jsp)

Both have rigorous programs.

Honestly, the reason I left was financial. If you think you can deal with paying for a private university for undergraduate studies, I would choose USC over UCLA.
