USC Vs UIUC

Hi,

My name is Ankit. I have applied for a BS in Comp. Science.

I have been accepted both at U of I and USC. I know that UI ranks 4 in engineering and the same in Computer Science.

However, USC's overall rank (30) is better than UI's (42). Also, USC being a private univ. has a lower student:faculty ratio. Also, in IL, there will be more of party students (which I am not) since it is a very large univ. Financials r not a problem for me.

Also, after BS in Comp. Science, I am planning to do MBA from a univ. like Harvard, Stanford, etc.

So could u give me some advice bout' which univ. to select.

I got accepted to UofI with a scholarship, but after visiting, chose USC because

1.) UofI is huge. The campus is too big and there are a lot of students. Going there would make me just another number.
2.) UofI is...rural. It's surrounded by miles and miles of cornfields. There's not much to do in Champaign or Urbana, unlike Los Angeles, which is like the center for everything.
3.) UofI weather is not as good as USC. Okay, so this was more near the bottom of the list, but I think the fact that we don't have to shovel snow here in Los Angeles, watch out for tornadoes, or survive weeks of 100+ degree weather is a nice thing.

About 50% of USC engineering students are international--they even have a dorm where many of them choose to live. I have been very impressed with the folks in the school of engineering at USC--having spoken with several of them. USC has career placement & internships worldwide for its engineering students.
I don't know much about U of I, since my child didn't apply there. The kids I know who attended USC's engineering school have been satisfied with their education.
USC has a new 3/2 program, where you can get a masters & bachelor's in engineering in 5 years.

Oh yeah, there is a large population of Indian people here at USC, and a lot of them are in the CS department. I happen to be friends with a few of them, so don't worry about not fitting in. I'm not sure about U of I though.

Thnks for ur advice

there's lots of indians at uiuc...mostly internationals, but a sizable amount of Indian-Americans in grad and undergrad stuff
