USC vs. UMich

Hi guys! I am currently debating on whether to go to the University of Southern California or the University of Michigan. I am an international from Latin America planning to study business and then law. I got accepted into both universities but I want to know which one will be a better fit considering academics, social/greek life, and job prospects. Thanks!

UMich Ross BBA doesn’t release their first decisions until Friday 1/31, so are you planning to major in Economics via LSA?

UMich has the #3 rated undergraduate business program, but I’m sure Marshall at USC is excellent also.

USC has I think 9 sororities and UMich has 16-17 sororities, so Greek life will be much bigger at UMich.

The environment at each is completely different. Big city versus small college town. Cold vs. warm.

@sushiritto I’m still waiting for my Ross reply. I also wanted to know if you know anything about international students at both of these universities??

For undergrads at UMich, international students represent about 7% of the population.

At USC, International students represent about 25% of the student body, but that’s both undergad and graduate.

I’d invite experienced USC parents to comment here @WWWard and @CADREAMIN to help clear up any USC info.

Remember, UMich is a public school, so over half (52%) of the student body will be from Michigan.

If you have an acceptance to USC, that implies that you have at least some form of merit scholarships. How does cost impact you?

it would be nice to have the scholarship but I don’t need financial aid so cost is not a deciding factor @Eeyore123

I personally would rate both schools about the same, so it’s going to be about where you’re most comfortable.

USC has 18 sororities. https://www.greekrank.com/uni/49/sororities/

One of the complaints I often hear about USC is that it’s too Greek-oriented, although if you want to take part, I guess that’s good.

@emmahouston Both ate excellent academically and would set you on a strong career path.

Have you spent prolonged time in cold weather and does that appeal? Michigan has long, very cold winters. Did I mention it gets cold in the winter?

If it matters to you, off campus LA has larger Latin American populations than Ann Arbor, both immigrants and Latin American heritage communities. Spanish is widely spoken, Portuguese considerably less so.

These are two excellent choices, congratulations!
