Work Experience (just copied verbatim from what i put on the college apps, sorry if it sounds haughty):

In terms of work experience, I am a self-employed online entrepreneur. I typically purchase and resell/invest in products on the internet for up to/over $2000 profit each week, my best being a 1600% return. It gives me a variety of skills, including and not limited to time management, customer service, consumer relations, photography, web development, promotion, selling, and insight into the business and entrepreneurial world. I have also begun to sell products for other people, as a consignment service.

AP/Honors Classes Taken (grade taken):

AP World History 9
Honors English 9
AP World History 10
Honors English 10
AP Latin IV (11)
AP Calculus BC (11)
AP US History (11)
AP English-11 Language (11)
AP US/VA Government (12)
AP English-12 Literature (12)
AP Statistics (12)

I began taking high school credit math courses in the 7th grade...so I believe I have 6 HS math credits.

Colleges Applying To/Considering

College of William and Mary
University of Maryland-College Park
University of Southern California
University of Texas-Austin
Virginia Tech
James Madison University
Carnegie Mellon? (Tepper)
Wisconsin-Madison

I am also a year ahead, because I skipped a grade. I'll include an essay about it if I have the appropriate prompt...

My essays were supposedly good according to my AP English teacher. Did not read the recommendation.

BUT

I have 2 D+s and a C (unweighted) on the transcript. The D+s are in AP World History 10 and in AP Latin Virgil and the C in Calc BC in Junior year. Tjere's also one B from Marine Science. However, everything else is either a A+, A, or B+, and our school has a stricter grading scale than most. I honestly could blame the D on just ONE assignment in world history (tip: never use Ice Cube's music, even censored, in a project- the judges will be intimidated and disqualify you). That was a big factor- even though I really don't like to blame anything on anyone else but myself or make any excuses. Our grading scale is pretty tough, no weights for honors classes. AP is out of 5.0 scale. 98-100 is A+, 94-97 is A, 90-93 is B+, 86-89 is B, 82-85 is C+...etc. I think the scale is relatively tough compared to my friends' schools.

So the question is...do I stand a chance at the aformentioned institutions? Thanks.

I feel like W&M will be hard BECAUSE of those grades on your transcript. I know of someone who got waitlisted at VT because of a C+ on her midyear report and that was her lowest grade ever. JMU should be okay.. but again, your transcript will hurt you.

Did you apply ED to UVA? or am I thinking of someone else..

University of Maryland-College Park- match (only 30% out of state but with those stats theyd be stupid to reject you)
Virginia Tech - safety
James Madison University - safety

i know ppl whove gotten in with lower scores and gpa for those schools(even out of states for VT and JMU),but idk much about the others so im not gonna pretend i do

haha yep, that was me.

thanks guys so far for the input.

College of William and Mary - Good
University of Maryland-College Park - Good
University of Southern California - Reach
University of Texas-Austin - Reach
Virginia Tech - Good
James Madison University - Good
Carnegie Mellon? (Tepper) - Reach
Wisconsin-Madison - Good

bump because i'm insecure. you guys don't have to chance CMU anymore, I don't think I am going to apply there.

I'm wondering if anyone has gotten into W&M that hasn't been in at least the top 15%... that's why I'M insecure.

i wouldnt consider VT a safety...those Ds will hurt you even here, because admissions is not easy at all anymore...most people i talk to had a 3.5-3.8 GPA here, and i know the average GPA was a 3.62...that might be a tad inflated by the 3.8 av GPA for engineering, but who knows
i would not rely on VT though
UT - OOS is ridiculous...trust me..i had 3.6 overall, 4.2 senior year and still got rejected (atleast from E-school...got accepted into their Univ. Studies program and didnt want to waste 40K)
JMU - good shot...they like boys haha

"JMU - good shot...they like boys haha"

I definitely think so too hahaha

bump bump 10 characters

wow no one has anymore?

Nolan, I think you should look beyond VA more - especially to schools that have rolling admissions. UVA and W&M have become very competitive. JMU is a good school, if you need to stay in VA.....

Did you or your Guidance counselor include an explanation on your app about your D+'s ?

Nice, I had to look the word "consignment" up.

LBP is correct. My son is at JMU (OOS). He says so many instate kids applied to UVA. He says that so many have a 3.8+, but only had around a 1250 (old) on the sats, so they were waitlisted, and then rejected by UVA.

JMU does weigh GPAs and courses taken most heavily, so I don't really know how the Ds will effect admissions. My son's GC has seen students with lower stats admitted, and those with higher stats rejected.

I don't know if this is true, as I have not found it on JMU's website, but my son was told (don't know by whom) that the incoming class for 2006 was 70% female (I believe the norm has been 60/40). I suppose that this could help males next year, if this info is accurate.

u live in NOVA, you should go to NOVA lol j/k

College of William and Mary - match

yeah sucks

youre not going to college...maybe study at community college for a year?
