so you are applying as a junior right? ummm... i think you definitely should send them your fall 04 grades because they want those, but hold off on sending your spring grades unless they ask for them. they tend to ask for them from freshmen because they want to see more of their college work. i mean, if your spring grades are sick, it can't hurt to send them in also. but def send in your fall 04 grades, they might think you weren't enrolled that semester and that could be bad.

Correct, the 30 units are important. For example, the admissions lady said that a student last year tried to transfer with 10 units total. That number seems a bit exaggerated, but the importance of units was stressed. Kids who did not achieve the minimum GPA of 2.8 (?) were thrown out, as well. If you did not take the required English classes, meet the Math requirement (C or better in Algebra II), or did not progress on individual coursework, you would likely be thrown out.

im applying as a junior with 59 units to be completed by the end of spring. do you think being 1 unit short of 60 will hurt my transfering as a junior at all?

You just won't be a junior. Still not a bad thing though, you need to finish 128 units to graduate at SC. 64 of those units must be completed at USC, so you'll just need to take 1 or 2 extra classes than someone transferring with 64.

I doubt it would hurt. But it depends. If you were a junior now, and tried to transfer with 59, it would be difficult. But if you're not even a junior, I doubt it would hurt.

^ You can't be a junior with 59 units

You're right. I was just thinking in terms of age, but I suppose age is irrelevant when it comes to one's status in college. But the unit to year ratio (i.e. 30 units to one year) is important.

I know USC's pretty strict about time and graduation and all that, but if I'm transferring in with something like 54 units, will they let me go an extra semester? I ask primarily because I want to pick up a double major for my grad school plan.

Yes oxygen, they'll give you as much time as needed to acquire the mandatory 128 units (Thats for single major, Im not sure on double majors).

i heard the opposite.

well, that's encouraging. i really want to do both journalism and philosophy and if i have an extra semester (at least) for wiggle room, i'll be very happy.

bump

this wait is killing me

A question for those who are, more or less, "in the know."

Is it that much easier to get into USC as a transfer relative to trying to get in as a freshman? Not to sound juvenile, but it's almost too good to be true. I don't know if anyone else had the pleasure of having a meeting with admissions officials at USC, but they make it seem like it's so easy. "Well, as part of the Trojan family, achieve at least a 3.4 transferable GPA, take the required English classes, math requirement, 30 units, etc..." I just don't want to give my hopes up.

Thanks for any info.

Fight On!

It is easier.....last year high school admissions were 27% and transfer admissions were about 30%

Here are the exact statistics from last year's transfers:

Applied:6,799
Admitted: 2,064

bizumpity-bump

Anyone have any insider info for the first wave of transfer decisions?

good question. anyone?

Well, checking the archives from last year....the first decisions were received APRIL 21ST.

Yikes.

Those were only junior transfers, though. People in thier first year trying to transfer as a sophmore will surely have to wait until they receive thier final spring grades.

I had a friend call the admission's office bout a week ago and they said they had around 8000 appilcants and they were pretty behind. Something about probably not gettin them out by late may or possibly June. =X somenoe might actually want to call again to get a more updated response. Thank you =)

well someone by the name of 'maggie' is already saying she got accepted for transfer in the USC forum.
