USConnect question/speculation?

@kasian

I had a
2140 SAT
4 SAT IIs (math - 740, chem - 730, bio - 730, us hist - 760)
national merit finalist (I put USC as 1st choice in OCTOBER!)
3.9 GPA
had 4 APs this year…(7 in total by end of year)

I have a feeling this was pretty average, but I thought I could have NMF going for me. 5 years of community service, a political internship, a job…not much else I think. I think my essays were decent.

@kasian, does your gpa and ECs also make u think usc is a reach?

@calculusfan We don’t. It appears based on this forum and word of mouth that more people had unknown/unknown.

@kasian I’m also interested in those general stats.

@fightonn Yes, it doesn’t look like good news for those with unknown/unknown. I’d still like to hear USC’s reasoning for why it was taken down, when they stated it does not mean anything.

@kerning It would definitely be nice if someone questioned USC their reason for removing it.

We also could raise a bunch of hell, if it ends up they lied to us like that.

@friedfishchen What major did you apply to? Did you apply before the merit scholarship deadline and did you apply for financial assistance?

Were there any people who applied AFTER the merit scholarship deadline and saw their major/class?

@kerning I applied to Viterbi (Computer Science and Business Adminstration) as my first choice, and Dornsife (Undecided) for my 2nd choice. I submitted my app on the day of 12/1, and I applied for financial assistance.

Could it have just been that they didn’t upload our financial aid status yet? Maybe the files for the unknowns/unknowns haven’t been given attention yet. After all uploading FA takes a while I would imagine, and it’s an ongoing process even after decisions are given.
I just feel like it would make more sense, if a person were to be rejected, for the area to have been blank…(?)

@sfxchris
It probably would make more sense to leave the area blank, but essentially the system trying to find the class/major value was drawing a blank, hence the “unknown”.

I usually never post in CC forums, but I couldn’t keep this to myself.

I just clicked on my “Application Status Check”. Under my current messages it shows that they sent “Admission Decision Notification” on Monday, March, 24 2014.

The downloaded message turned out to be a rejection letter, dated March 26, 2014. Kind of in shock right now because USC was my first choice school…

For those wondering, I had unknown/unknown in my financial aid before they took it down.

@friedfishchen Yes, I think there is hope. Really, I do.

It would be such a weird thing tho… Considering all applicants have a “class” and “major”

@FoxSpectator Oh no, sorry! :frowning: I don’t have a message yet, but I am 99.9999% sure I am rejected now. I guess us unknown/unknown are the ones they didn’t want.

@FoxSpectator I am sorry. :frowning:

I don’t think the admissions office is “lying” on the twitter response but rather being obtuse and evasive. The response could mean “We give accepted students their good news by sending a big packet in the mail rather than via a notation on their FA status.”

@yoamogatos Yes. But then the notification on their FA status would mean something.

@FoxSpectator Is this true? I see no change and no messages on my son’s “Status Check” page. He too was “unk/unk”.

Has ANYONE else seen anything like @FoxSpectator? ???

and Fox, I’m so sorry.

I still think it is just a weird glitch in the system! Systems are never perfect! Also UsC is known for not giving the hint to ALL accepted, there are always a few that still end up accepted without a hint!

@Calculusfan I’m depending on you and a couple of other posters for those little inklings of hope to counteract my extreme pessimism and expectation of rejection right now, haha.

Even @alamemom seems to suggest that unknown/unknown are likely rejections. She usually seems to know this stuff pretty well.
