I just checked my application status (I applied November 30 for scholarship consideration) and it has been updated to:

We have completed a preliminary review of your application. We sometimes request additional information (senior-year grades, for example), so be sure to watch the mail. You may submit senior year grades at www.usc.edu/midyeargrades, even if we did not specifically request them. We are continuing to review applications and expect to mail notification of a decision by April 1st.

What does this mean? Was I deferred from the first round of acceptances?

Assuming you’re talking about the Cinematic Arts School, the Director of Admissions for SCA gave the tour my S and I took last week and she said they were overwhelmed with applications this year … nearly 1200 alone just for the maximum 60 spots in Film Production. She said not to expect any acceptances to happen before the middle of March, so you haven’t missed anything. :)

Haha, I’m glad I’m not alone in checking my application status all the time. From what I gathered from last year’s thread though, the one you want is this:

“The committee has acted on your application, and we have mailed notice of the decision. If for some reason you have not received our written notification, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone 10 days after your letter was mailed.”

Last year these didn’t get sent out until late January, the 27th or so. If you get that, it mean that there would be a package coming in the mail from USC, with admissions info.

norcalimom, that works out to space for 5% of the Dec1 applicants! ANd they’d have to reserve some spots for the non-scholarship applicants… which means maybe 2-3% of the Dec 1 applicants get in, or less. Wow, it’s going to be very hard to get into SCA.

Actually it’s 5% because all Film Production applicants had to apply by Dec 1, but that’s still going to make it very competitive. I don’t know what the numbers are for the other SCA majors though.

norcalimom, thanks for the correction. I’d forgotten about that little detail - all I’ve had in my head is Dec 1 for scholarship applicants (need all the $$ help we can get). :)

I applied around the same time as you, OP, to the CLAS, and my application status was changed to that a few days afterward… I wonder if that’s a good, bad, or neutral thing?
