USD Class of 2018 Applicants

Hey Everyone!

With the deadline quickly approaching (December 15) I thought it would be a great idea to make this thread just to see everyone's admissions decisions, financial aid packages, etc. If you do get accepted please feel free to post your stats!

As for myself, USD is my top choice. I'm crazy about this school and cannot wait until decisions come out.

Is anyone else excited to submit?

I have yet to submit my application. One question though, as an international IB student my SAT score is optional. If I have a SAT of 1500, considering that I’m an IB-student, will I be able to get a merit scholarship if I provide them with my weak SAT-score? And if I decide to not send in my SAT scores, will I have to remove it from the section on CommonApp as well? I mean, will they be able to see my SAT score through CommonApp? Thanks!

@benignus

I myself am also an IB student!

I would say to go ahead and submit your SAT score. They say that when considering an applicant for merit scholarships they look at GPA AND testing. So if you don’t submit your SAT, your consideration for merit could be revoked altogether. I’m not 100% sure on this though.

No matter what, I would submit it especially if you already have it listed on Common App. The more information the admissions office has, the better!

Hello all, I’m really excited about USD i visited a few weeks ago and it was great! Does anyone know when we’re supposed to hear back? I know its early but i applied early everywhere else and am starting to hear back so id like to know all my decisions so i can make my own decision.

@Sullivan7

Usually USD reports back at around March/April.

I know, it kills me to wait so long too.

Is the deadline for the application on Sunday the 15th at 12:00 midnight WST?

@southeastwest

Yes, I believe the deadline is tomorrow at 12:00AM PST.

If you don’t get it in by then, they also have a late consideration deadline.

I submitted my application yesterday! I’m kind of nervous.

I submitted my app on Sunday. I’m going for a campus visit today! So excited!

Please update on your campus visit. We can’t visit until April!

Has anyone gotten their login ID to check their application status? I’m getting a little worried because I’m not exactly sure when we’re supposed to receive them.

@carotid i applied at the end of october and it took them weeks (like 4) to send my log in information but i have it now…it doesn’t make the wait any easier

@jbourne i visited over my thanksgiving break. It was a really beautiful campus! We got to see a dorm which only my second time out of the 10+ tours i’ve been on. The view from the dorms were awesome but atypical. My tour guide was horrible but the campus itself is nice. Its about 10 minutes from the beach and downtown and 30 minutes from the boarder. The campus is really spread out but there are shuttles that run to take people from dorms to the main area where all the classes are. I didn’t like that the campus felt very isolated. My bone head tour guide said that you just have to “know someone with a car” being from Ohio, this was a concern for me. The campus was also very white…little to no diversity.

Thanks. I am concerned about comments I have read like ‘everyone just goes into San Diego and does their own thing’. My daughter is looking for some place to ‘belong’ with campus spirit, etc.

@jbourne It was so much fun. It was cloudy (it rained a little) and I was the only one on my tour. My tour guide was a junior and a freshman was shadowing her. They were really nice and they came off as very genuine and knowledgeable about USD. The campus? Beautiful!!! Even on a cloudy day the campus is breathtaking. Also, it is a huge campus! It is very well organized so you never feel lost or overwhelmed by the size. There is a tram system that helps people get around campus. I could see myself there before my tour even started. I saw a dorm room and it was a decent size and there are dorms on campus that are even bigger than the one I saw. There was so much to see. I think my favorite place is the Reflection Room because when you step outside of it there is the greatest view of San Diego you’ll ever see in your life. SeaWorld is right across the lake. You won’t believe how close it is. I felt like I could jump to it! You could see all the way to Mission Beach. Anyways that’s about it. I might have left out a few things. It was great. Feel free to ask questions. :)

Withdrew my application for being accepted ED II at Claremont McKenna. Feel free to continue posting your stats/decisions and I wish the absolute best luck for you all.

Carotid, why did you withdraw your application after being accepted ED2 at Claremont? It’s a far more prestigious school than USD (although my son has applied to both, rejected ED1 at CMC and waiting on USD)?

@lynjobes

I withdrew my application from USD (does that solve the confusion?). ED 2 is binding so I had to withdraw my applications from all of my other schools.

Yes, that makes far more sense. I think you missed a word or something in your “withdrawal” post. You are very fortunate to be at CMC.

Decisions are up!
