USD Fall 2013 Applicants!

I got in although my counselor told me not to apply USD because it’s out of my reach.
I have a low GPA of 3.20. But I think it might be due to my 2040 SAT score.

Got in with 3.6 GPA and 1710 SAT, International freshman.

Calirunning - thank you for your reply. It helped my daughter and she is now prepared for whatever happens.

D got an acceptance letter by snail mail today. Never got an email. She could have missed it in spam.

ACCEPTED

GPA 3.9
SAt 1600
EC’s not a lot
ITS POSSIBLE!

@calirunning how did you find out-email, letter, portal?

D received a large envelope today with acceptance. Letter dated 3/18/13 and we live in Orange County. She never received an e-mail. She logged in earlier in the week and could see her status as Committee Review and had access to a third tab Accepted or Admitted I can recall exactly what it said.

GPA 4.1, SAT 2050, AP, Honors, Varsity Sports and Extra Curricular as well.

Waitlisted, frustrating watching people with lower stats from my school get in. I got into 8 out of the 10 schools I applied to, ones better than usd academically and I got waitlisted… It’s heartbreaking from my number 1 choice …

Anyone know if its honestly worth trying to get in on a waitlist ?

After reading this thread for months and trying to figure out how my D would fare in the admission to USD, I decided to post my first review. D’s first choice was USD. It was a reach school but she got into the other reaches to which she applied so she thought she had a shot. When her portal turned to “committee review” from “ready for review” I started researching what that meant. From what I could see, it was not good and I called admissions and asked what it meant…got a vanilla answer that was not helpful. My reading of this change from other years was that it led to a denial. Last Friday, we finally received a denial in the snail mail. Her friend went through the same thing with the portal changing and then getting denied. Thankfully, due to my research D was not surprised. She would have been devastated had she not been aware of the comments out there. This definitely softened the blow. To those of you who got in after having your portal change, please chime in. I know some of you said that you “thought” it had changed but it would help people if those of you who “know” it changed but thereafter received admission let people out there know if there is still a chance. It seems like once that portal changes to “committee review”, a denial follows. Good luck to those who got in!

In my D’s case the “Committe Review” lead to “Admitted”. I’m thinking that Committee Review is simply a group of people reviewing the application because it wasn’t a clear shoe-in. I can see how it can more likely lead to a denial. Maybe Committee Review also means that a group is reviewing for purposes of scholarships/grants such as for certain departments where a portfoliio or audition CD is submitted. My D didn’t get into her first choice either.

^^newyor…Application went from “Ready to Review” then “Committee Review” and then admitted tab showed up. Sorry. Unfortunately, this school is not my D’s first choice. She is still waitlisted for her first choice.

^^Caliliz
I would write to admissions and inquire why you were rejected. Once you know why you were rejected then you can write another passionate plea as you did above. You have nothing to lose… I wrote them about a financial aid question and they wrote back to me that same day. Good Luck!

I received a letter in the mail with my rejection, also my portal had changed to committee review about a week before I got the letter. I live about an hour away from San Diego. I personally think I got screwed over by a college coach because my GPA was a 3.83 and my Sat was an 1800 and I know plenty of kids who got in with way lower stats. Also, sorry for the delay in replying!

Can anyone clear some questions in my head? I heard that the choice of major impacts your admission or whatever. I got into UCSD for an undeclared major, although I wrote down Computer Science in the UC application. I don’t get why it says undeclared. If I say yes to this school and choose computer science again for my major and there happens to be no space, do I not get in? How does selecting major after admission work? I’m an international, not really familiar with the system.

It seems UCSD is my only choice anyway so I really need this to work out. UCD, UCI and UCLA all rejected me, well Davis waitlisted but I won’t accept that offer. Now only waiting for results from University of Texas at Austin.

Dude, you are in the wrong forum! This is University of San Diego (USD) not UCSD. If I am not wrong, you start as undeclared major for your freshman year. You are only required to declare major in your sophomore year.

My daughter hasn’t received anything yet from USD, and her portal hasn’t changed - still says Ready for Review. Is there anyone else out there that hasn’t heard yet? She is assuming that she has been denied :frowning: but is holding out hope since she hasn’t received official notice yet.

I received my acceptance letter about 3 weeks ago and a follow up phone call from the school congratulating me. However, my portal still says “Committee Review” so don’t get discouraged. These portals have glitches all them time, and can’t be counted on to be consistent.

Hey guys after you got accepted how long did it take before your financial aid award/status showed up? Ive been accepted for awhile but it still hasnt shown my aid award?

I called and they basically told me to explore my other options ha I am extremely dissapointed in this school… The worst part is when the said the are trying to make their campus more diverse as if some one who is white (me) has no point being there
