USD vs SCU vs Chapman

Accepted at all three with merit scholarships. Interested in learning more about the differences (pros/cons), the business programs (marketing/entrepreneurship) and internship opportunities. If you are familiar with these schools and can help with my decision making process, please share your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

I too would like to know about USD and SCU. Let us know!

SCU and Chapman are ranked regionally, USD is ranked nationally.

Endphase, thanks so much for your reply…how do you feel this information would influence your decision, if you were comparing the business programs?
Are there any students or parents on this forum who might also know something about one or more of the business programs at these schools? Someone who could address internship opportunities or career placement following graduation?
Thanks again.

I am a parent of a student at USD, who was accepted to Chapman, so we toured it a few times, and we live near SCU. I have a lot of familiarity with SCU and USD, but only a little with Chapman.

I think academically, USD and SCU are superior (and probably equal to one another in Business), and a notch above Chapman, especially for their Business programs.

USD is a beautiful school. San Diego is a great, young person’s city…lots to do, and the beach, great weather!

SCU has an outstanding reputation with Silicon Valley employers, of which there are a lot, and that is one of SCU’s strongest attributes, in addition to being a great school. San Jose is a nice area, nice weather, just not as nice as San Diego as a city. SCU has a nice low key, easy going student population. Students attend sporting events, local off-campus (which is usually right down the street from campus) parties.

I think there is a wealthier, more moneyed student population at USD than SCU, which can be a bit of a turn-off, and hard to be around. But, I believe a student “finds their people” or the group of kids they are comfortable around, wherever they attend school, so this may not be an issue. But, just know, there are a lot of really wealthy kids at USD. Not sure how or why, but there seems to be more money there than other private California schools I am familiar with.

But, USD is a great school academically, on a beautiful campus (one of the prettiest I have ever seen) in a really great city - so the whole “package” is strong!

My two cents, take it with a grain of salt!

Thanks so much for your input, BayAreaCAMom. You mentioned touring Chapman a few times. Do you have two cents to share about that school as well? What did your son or daughter like about the school, and why was it crossed off the list?

We just liked the feel of USD and SCU better than Chapman. They are better academically, and they just felt more comfortable there. We are Catholic, so I think that also sways us towards the Catholic schools.

Have you visited any of the schools? Chapman’s campus is nice, a bit more compact and urban feeling than the other two. I have not seen it now in a few years, and there have been a few new dorms and buildings. I think Chapman does have some of that OC, SoCal vibe, with wealth, looks, and designer clothing being important for many. But, where ever you go, you will find a group of people that fit with you!

do decisions come out as rolling or when do they come out?
