Need some serious help here -

MY D has acceptances from UCSD (Revelle - Econ), USD (20k/y), SLO, Chapman ($25K/yr), Pepperdine (no aid yet ?), Santa Clara (BTW - if there is another thread or forum to post the discussion of how to make the decision between the schools above - please lmk)

Any idea/pointers as to how to help her make a decision - we are planning to visit to check out the atmosphere

Key questions are

Brand recognition for the above schools esp USD/UCSD/SLO/Chapman as it pertains to business ?

How well is Chapman known for their business program ?

My D likes a small school atmosphere - and she is thinking she may get the advantages of a big school (brand, exposure etc) with a small school feel with the Revelle college atmosphere at UCSD - is that true ?

She is inclined to go for an MBA later on - which school is better or worse for the same

It seems like all schools have a good international/study abroad program - any thoughts there ?

Is $20K/year the max for non need based at USD ?

Thoughts ?

It seems Santa Clara is not on your final list.

If cost is not a problem, I would choose Santa Clara. (Is Santa Clara cost the same as USD/Chapman?) SCU has a strong business program, the strongest among your list, and the great location right in silicon valley, which leads to more internship/job opportunities.

Solid work experience, rather than the undergraduate school, is more important when applying to MBA program.

I know 2 recent USD Business grads who both have excellent careers–well above where I thought they would be a few years past graduation. One went on to get his MBA–paid for by his company. The other secured a fine internship overseas which led to an excellent job offer. I heard no complaints about the program from either one.

Based on the key questions you mention, I would pick Santa Clara over all other schools, it is small, it has an MBA program and its undergrad business program is pretty good. One thing to consider though Santa Clara is a private university so that is something you might consider. If you guys are California residents and money is an issue, I would choose San Luis Obispo, SLO has a reputable business program too.
