So right now, I'm a freshman in high school, and I'm spending most of my free time outside of school/music-related events self-learning foreign languages (right now I'm studying Arabic and Chinese), just because I enjoy doing so, and I don't really have anything better to do. However, many of my friends (especially my college-obsessed asian ones :P) are saying that volunteering/participating in clubs are the best ways to get into good colleges. I was wondering what you guys thought; any opinions?

Haha, that is the common myth that high school students need to get over.

Do things that you like to do. The admission office wants unique individuals, who do what they love, not a bunch of machines following one another. Just stick to what you like, and excel at it. Believe me, if you hate something, you will not do well. Colleges will know whether you are committed or not. They are smarter than you think.

Don’t just worry about ECs, keep your academics up as well. Remember, keep this motivation throughout high school, don’t let it die out like AHEM me, haha. You have 2 more years or so to prove what you are capable of! Again, by doing what you love. Have fun!

totallyyy ditto smileyo
