<p>My son will be an incoming freshman, OOS, this fall at UW and he is wanting to buy a used bike when we take him there in late August. Can anyone tell me of any good, used bike stores nearby to the campus or in Madison somewhere? He would want a good, but used and dependable bike, but not an expensive one. Just a bike to get him around the campus and maybe into town. We will have a car so can travel anywhere. Or, does the campus have a used bike sale at the start of the term at all? I know some campuses do that (my older son's campus does that and that is how he got his bike last fall)</p>
<p>I would just suggest checking Craigslist the week before you come in August, and type in ‘UW’ in the search field to find bike owners near campus who are selling.</p>

<p>Good to see you are following the advice regarding the least theft prone bicycles.</p>
<p>When on campus recently I saw a number of spray painted red bikes. I mean the whole bike tires inc were red. They look like crap but appear functional and probably cost next to nothing. I also noticed at least 4 bike shops on Regent St in the area from Park to Randall streets. Presume they sell used stuff.</p>
