Hey I was accepted to Stern Early D. These questions are for those who are already at NYU.

First, where can I buy some used books?

Second, can you give me a run down of professors?

I heard for World Culture, the Chinese professor is really hard, I'm taking it BUT I think I know A LOT about Chinese culture, especially contemporary Chinese culture. Your thoughts?

Ok, about Calc I teachers.

Botha, Holmes, Chumakova, Ren, Lee, Shehade, Burr, and Gun. WHOOOO do I choose? So much choices.... don't know what to do...

Is there like rating website? Or a website dedicated to how teachers are are NYU??? Your help is appreciated.

OH, and meal plan, any suggestion? any general suggestions?

Oh and what's the deal with honors stern students? How do I get in? CAN I get in? What are their "privileges?" And, are there any early d students that got in honors? If not, I'm ****ed....

First lesson for any NYU student - search! Search the NYU website, search the website, maybe search a few NYU forums. Gotta be a little more self-reliant. :)

Used books can be found at the NYU bookstore, at Half.com, on eBay, or even on LJ's NYU community.

Some teacher evaluations can be found at the CAS course eval guide. Search for it on the NYU website. Some people use other professor rating site, but I generally think those are sensationalist.

As for meal plans, seach collegeconfidential's NYU forum, and you'll find half a dozen threads debating the merits of just about every plan available.

Generally, for any math class you're taking (unless you're a math major, and planning to take extras...but this even applies to math minors), it really doesn't make a difference which teacher you have. At this level, most of the teachers are grad students anyhow, and usually teachers are decided very close to start of school.

By Stern honor, do you mean Stern Scholar? Or the honors program?

Your best bet for textbooks would be online websites like half.com I know that I've bought and sold textbooks for quite a bit of profit from that site, so I would highly recommend it.

You can find professor ratings from ratemyprofessor.com It has a pretty comprehensive rundown on professor difficulty and general perception of their personalities.

Assuming you're talking about Scholars, I believe they're selected based on academic merit. I've been told that Scholars are decided during the admissions process, but I got my CAS Scholar letter just recently so you might still have a chance of getting it. Shades_children has a pleasant thread on CAS benefits, but I don't know about Stern Scholars.

Before school starts, around mid-August, you can check your official book list for each class online at the NYU bookstore. If you really want to know, you can get an idea by searching what previous classes read, but that may not stay the same.
