Useful skills you can learn on your own?

What are some skills (programming, license, etc.) you recommend learning to raise your employability?

CS
basic probability and statistics

Of course, your mileage may vary as to how successful you are at self-education of these and other subjects. Many people learn better in a structured environment of one or more college level courses.

Programming is a big one (I assume this is what ucbalumnus means by CS… a lot of CS is probably pretty tough to learn independently and of questionable immediate value).

Reading and writing are things any literate person can work on and make significantly better. Think vocabulary, literature, grammar, etc.

Public speaking. Volunteer in some organizations and take leadership roles. Get comfortable standing in front of a crowd and delivering a message. Learn effective presentation techniques.

MS Office products complement all of these things. Know them and other means of publishing content… web, blog, video, etc.
