Okay, so for my English II honors class we have a former college professor. 1st semester English II honors is for sophomores in <Algebra II Honors except for me [AP Calculus BC]. I couldn't fit it in 2nd semester, and so I'm stuck with the "slower" students of the school. She patronizes us, telling us stories that only "very intelligent students" will understand as related to the class. (And are in fact completely relevant) Most of her assignments are things like collages and other hands-on projects that just take a lot of time because she feels we need concrete examples to understand anything.

The journal entries are about goals for the first part of the year, and I have to constantly rewrite mine because my journal entry for the first day covered everything she want us to write about in the first week.

Last year I made a 100% on the standardized test for my state in English I (>99th percentile). But I know that I'm losing ground in English and am not learning. Is there anyway for me to politely ask to work on a higher level in some way? It's impossible to skip the class for a higher level course because of state law.

Currently she's teaching us to take notes and how to study--useless skills for her class.

Thanks

Why don't you take an online course or even a class at the local county college, in addition to your required English II?

i think classes such as PE/computers/careers are USELESS!

haha especially for people who play sports, spend ALL of their time procrastinating on the computer and understand the importance of college
lmao

You should just punch your teacher in the face and hack through the system to get in a higher class...

Good times, good times.. :]

I already have 4 other online courses this semester, and English II (H) is my only face-to-face class. My school won't allow me to do a 6th class at all, and they won't allow me to take all of my classes online. I tried to contact the English department head at the community college (the only college close enough to take classes) to do an independent study of a high level class. I took their placement tests (COMPASS) and I made a 99/99 (perfect score) in reading and a 97/99 in writing. The highest class you may place into is English 111 and you would only need an 85/99 to do so. Apparently the counselor at the school had never seen scores so high. As you may have guessed, the department head never e-mailed me back.

We don't even have a higher level English course this year! LOL

=/ but when i would spend several years of my life in juvenille prison =[
haha i tried to get out of taking careers but the principal threatened me with not being able to graduate without that one credit of careers
he was hysterical

What I'd do: Bring you and your mom or dad to your school's guidance department and demand that you either be allowed to take one final online course or be admitted into the college class (despite how undemanding it may be for you).

^ You know, you can handle this without bringing in your parents.

Go talk to your GC and explain what's going on. He/she should help you.

What you don't know is I have literally been fighting for my schedule since April! Another college is still lagging in signing me up and my counselor has had to deal with that about everyday for the past month. My current English class is probably better than the college class anyway. I talked to one of the teachers (who is also the honors coordinator) who told me that "Honors English 111 involves almost exclusively students learning MLA and identifying pieces of literature by genre." Imagine the standard version.

LOL She's tired of me. In addition to pressure from the principal other staff members have made constant mistakes such as signing me up for the wrong online courses and dragging their feet about it.

My conclusion is I have to work with the teacher, and I'm not sure how to best do that.

Don't forget wet behind the ears. I don't believe I can put anything more on my counselor until she gets my current college courses dealt with and gets the data manager to drop me from the course she erroneously added me to. Then I have to harass her about: PSAT, SAT, SAT II's, APs tests at other high schools, applying to my state magnet and administrating the AMC and Physics olympiad test thingy. Oh... and late textbooks for all online classes/lab equipment for my online AP Physics B course.

Wow, do you ever have anything nice to say about anybody? Sheesh.
Remember that counselors do have more students than just you. They do the best they can.

Anyways, yes your teacher might be willing to individually challenge you more. Good luck :).

Careers, Gym, and Health are all useless.

I've never been forced to take a computer class, so I can't comment. However, I remember having to take typing classes in 4th grade, and I never understood why they would yell at me for not putting my fingers on home row when I could type so much faster otherwise. Now I type 90 WPM without using home row at all - USELESS CLASS.

useless class? Whatcha talking about? Those are my free homework period, for goodness sake.

I had a crazy Careers teacher who actually thought his class was important. He forced us to pay attention in class, to act out stupid skits and demonstrations, and to take hundreds of very interesting personality tests. Thankfully, it was only a 9-week class, but damn was it boring.

In my school: Gym, Religion (I hate to say it, though, as there are some GOOD teachers in the area, but to life in general it is useless), Dance, and Intro to Occupations.

Basic art courses
Basic music courses where no one actually plays an instrument
Health
Gym
