I'm having trouble deciding between the USF Honors College and New College of Florida for sociology. These are two extremely different schools, and I'm looking for opinions on overall academic reputation and student experience. I'm out of state, and I won't have time to visit before May.

I am drawn toward USF's larger, more diverse campus, better facilities, and wider availability of classes, but New College seems to be more academically rigorous and better at preparing students for law school admissions.

Opinions? I am also interested in hearing your opinions on housing and dining options.

USF sends many of its grads on to law school. Check out the new 3+3 program between the USF Honors College and the Stetson University Law College.

These colleges are just so different. Are you an intellectual-type? Go to New College. Do you care about sports or Greek life or want a traditional environment? If yes, don’t go to New College. New College is a serious academic school. USF has all types. New College has a better “overall academic reputation.”

Thanks! I think New College isn’t really what I’m looking for in terms of a traditional college experience and available classes.

One more question: USF compared to University of Pittsburgh? In both cases, I am considering the possibility of wanting to transfer after my freshman or sophomore year to a school I should have applied to in the first place. Do you think going to Pitt would put me at more of an advantage to transfer than USF? I’m not eligible for Pitt’s honors courses until I establish a GPA there, but I could start in the honors college at USF.
