Hi can someone explain the housing process at usf for me? Also what dorms do you guys think are best for freshmen? Will the magnolia apartments still be available if I apply for housing now and how do roommate requests work?

Hey (: okay
Juniper -poplar are in my opinion the best freshman dorms. It’s not recommended for freshman to get apartments because living in a dorm means being around more people, and meeting more people which reduces homesickness. In order for you to be roommates with someone, you have to put their name down on your application in the roommate section, and they have to do the same for you

Ok I listed juniper and poplar as my top two. Can you explain how the whole process works? Do I HAVE to pay the $200 prepayment to establish my spot? And when do they tell me my room assignment?

I believe you have to pay the $200 unless your family cannot afford it at this time or you’re Florida PrePaid.

Yes, you have to pay the $200 pre payment to secure your spot as well as the $50 application fee. I think we get out room assignments in mid may or the end of may.

Did it take a while for access to the application? I just got accepted yesterday, still cannot access the housing app.

I’m an entering freshman majoring in cs. Is poplar conveniently located near to the engineering buildings.?

Sent from my HTC One X using CC

Juniper-Poplar is the closest dorm to the engineering buildings. In fact, there’s an Engineering Learning Living Community (LLC) on the fifth floor of the building, so that entire floor is only engineering majors who get tutoring in the dorm and live together.

With the housing app, when you can access it (if you still can’t after a few days, I would call the housing office, I think admissions has to tell housing you were accepted before they open the app) you will choose your preference of dorms, indicate whether you want to be in any of the LLCs, and then you’ll pay the fees ($50 nonrefundable application fee, $200 prepayment, which is subtracted from your first semester’s rent once you come in the fall).

By filling the app and paying the fees, you’ve secured your place in the line for being assigned housing. With the exception of people who are placed in LLC’s, housing placement is first come, first serve, so the earlier you do it the better. Also, make sure you have your immunizations done before they start assignments, because they can’t place you anywhere unless they have those as well!
