My son got admission to Gator Engineering at Santa Fe and also got straight admission to USF (local) with $3000 scholorship and regular admission at FSU.
He may have to study at Santa Fe for 4 semesters as he has to do the pre-reqs and complete all the required tracking courses.
I am trying to see which is better option for him.
I have seen similar post from last year.
Any advice from Senior members like Gator88NE is appreciated.
TIA
I outlined the pros/cons in this thread: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/university-florida/2125635-info-on-gator-engineering-at-santa-fe-p1.html
I think the main points are these:
- Does your son want to be a Gator? If he really wants UF, this is the best available way for him to get it.
- Does he really want to study engineering? If he does not think he wants to get a degree in engineering, then this may not be the right program. You can’t switch to another major outside engineering and stay in this program.
- Is money a concern? $3,000 per year is no joke, so if that makes the college financial equation better, then go with USF.
My daughter was in a similar position. She had a merit award from USF and was accepted to FSU but she really wanted to go to UF. She wants to study computer science and she has full bright futures, so it would have been nice to have another $3,000 per year, but we could afford to go without it.
Most of the kids in the program appear to like it, and the statistics show it to be successful.
My daughter went to summer B last year and is taking a couple classes this summer at home. If all goes according to plan, she will be at Santa Fe two days a week in the Fall and be full UF with AA in hand by next Spring – her fourth semester.
Happy to answer any questions here or via direct message. Best of luck to him whatever he chooses.
@Gator88NE and @GatorDad305:
Thank you very much about detailed explanation.
