USF St Pete, a couple of questions--

I applied to USFSP as a safety school. My stats would put me into UF, FSU Honors, and USF Tampa Honors with no problem, but I really wanted a smaller campus, and you just can't find that in a Florida state school. I like being on the water; I'm into water sports, and the downtown SP area is funky and feels comfortable to me.

That said, I received a letter inviting me into the Honors Program at USFSP. I'm well-qualified and would be one of 90 students in the program.

My questions are:

1) Is USFSP really that bad a choice and will I be regretting it? Especially if I am in the Honors Program with all the perks? I do feel it will be a better move for me (big fish in a small pond) and since it's small and I'm highly motivated and quite academic, I won't have a problem establishing a rapport with the faculty. I want to major in Anthro and do a minor with core science (Bio/Chem/Math) because I may decide to go into Biological Anthro for grad school.

2) I qualify for the USF Florida Scholars Award (in addition to the Honors Award) but I haven't received any kind of notification about this. Then again, I applied to USF back in November (and was accepted about 4 days later!) so they never received my mid-year, updated transcript. Should I send it to them, and if so, does it go to Financial Aid or Admissions?

Thanks.

USF St. Pete is a hidden jewel in downtown St. Pete fronting Tampa Bay. Your efforts combined with what’s available for learning at USF St. Pete should be a winning combination. One thing you need to be clear on is how USF St. Pete fits into the USF System. USF St. Pete is not a branch campus; it is an independent college that is part of the USF System much like a franchisee arrangement with a franchisor. USF St. Pete uses the USF brand, and many of the tools and resources of the USF System are available at USF St. Pete, but it is an independent college so you can’t just run over to USF Tampa and take classes as an example. Make sure the study programs and courses you want (anthro) are available at USF St. Pete. Ask officials at USF St. Pete if you would like details.

I’d phone admissions about the USF Florida Scholars Award to make sure they will provide it to you. Also, make sure you have completed FAFSA app for 2011 so you can be considered for any scholarships and financial awards and aid. Good luck, and much happiness and success in college!
