I’m a high school senior about to graduate, and I think I’ve narrowed down my top two schools to be USF and FAU. I’ve loved the FAU campus ever since I set foot on it, but after touring USF just yesterday, I think I fell in even more in love with that school. I didn’t realize just how big USF was, and I have been leaning towards a more middle size feel like FAU, however I really love USF so I don’t mind much. Could anyone just give me their insight into these two schools? Location-wise, academics, class size, school activities, etc.
I am looking to go for a studio art degree, maybe minoring in psychology. USF’s art program seems a bit more impressive than FAU’s to me.
USF.
I was deciding between FSU and USF and I picked FSU, but it was honestly an incredibly hard choice. My brother went to USF and had an incredible time, he majored in Computer Science. As I live in South Florida, I’m familiar with people that go to FAU and the campus/area itself, and based on my finding from when I’ve gone to USF and the people I know from FAU, USF seems like the way better fit for me. It has much more school spirit, stronger sport teams, and a much more reputable academic system. The choice is up to me but here’s a comparison I made.
(Mostly opinionated, but I’m sure that other sources/people could back me)
Graduation Rate: USF > FAU
- USF wields a 67% Graduation rate while FAU has a 46% Graduation rate.
Housing (On Campus and Off Campus): USF > FAU
- From my experience, USF is less of a commuter school than FAU, meaning a lot of people come from around the state and country to go there. Most of FAU’s student population comes from the surrounding area. The housing in USF is honestly amazing, giving students a decent amount of spacing and the off campus housing is definitely contends for the best off campus housing in the state.
Campus Size: USF > FAU
- Like you said, the USF campus is HUGE, and it’s a very nice and modern one. Personally like it more than FAU’s.
Student Population: USF > FAU
- USF’s large, diverse student population give you many opportunities to meet all type of people, and it keeps a moderately nice student/teacher ratio
Football/Basketball: USF > FAU
- For people who love watching their school compete in sports, USF has a lot of Division 1 teams and competes against reputable schools. A very entertaining sports rivalry USF is involved in is the War on I4 with UCF.
